The Shady Trick Justice Scalia Plans To Use To Inject Even More Big Money Into Elections

The Shady Trick Justice Scalia Plans To Use To Inject Even More Big Money Into Elections | Coffee Party News | Scoop.it
Scalia's path is the path to campaign finance anarchy, and it ends with Sheldon Adelson writing massive checks directly to Republican candidates.
Coffee Party USA's insight:

What if corruption of money in politics runs all the way up to the Supreme Court? Should they still be considered "Supreme" and what recourse do we have when that happens?

Excerpt:

"A donor then makes a maximum-dollar donation to each of these shell groups, effectively laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars to each of these five grateful candidates. Thus, although federal law bans massive dollar donations to individual candidates in order to prevent corruption, Kagan’s hypothetical offers a way around that law."

"And if the Supreme Court gives the GOP what it is asking for, this money laundering scheme will almost certainly be legal."

If you take a look at the earlier post on the TPP I think it shows that Democrats and Republicans both are challenged to keep the citizen's interest first when corporations push their weight and wish list around. The Court at this point with Citizens United and a number of other recent rulings in mind seems very corporate, user friendly at the moment. One only has to look at the privatization that occurred during both the Bush senior years and the Clinton years to see that both sold off what was once public holdings to corporate interest… You can check out the story behind who ended up with Elk Hills Navy Oil Reserve to see how deep both parties pockets are. When a big environmentalist can cut a deal like that it shows that money talks .....However the Republicans have let their party get swallowed up by a perverted version of the libertarian ideas that has them all by the throat it seems. This leaves more moderate right wing citizens with little choice but to bail out and jump ship. The guys behind that version of libertarian want all the cookies and have very good reasons to want a tiny, insignificant government that lets them do as they will.

OK, but I don't see where you have addressed my point at all; which was simply that the Democrats are every bit beholden to special interests as the Republicans. To say otherwise simply goes against the facts. And that goes against yet another Coffee Party principle. <sad face>
Monica S Mcfeeters's comment, October 11, 2013 9:26 PM
The democrats ......Obama has picked Tom Vilsack for the USDA, Michael Taylor for the FDA and Tom Wheeler for the FCC. All are industry insiders and the insurance companies didn't loose business they just gained business with Obamacare. Even the fairly progressive Sen Dorgan, a Democrat went on to be a lobbyist. However the points in this article are well taken as well on about the other side of the isle and Obama had no trouble getting those appointments approved on that side of the isle either. These things have been addressed at times on the coffee party news as well. I think people here do not give either party a free pass. Clinton sealed the deal that Bush started on NAFTA and it looks like Obama plans to do the same for TPP ...both were corporate gifts on an international scale.....They were/are heavily supported by both parties, except for a few on each side of the parties. It is often hard to tell these parties apart in action.....The Tea Party effect stands out from the crowd and shows how confident those that want to buy politicians are these days. This article seems to point out how few are ashamed to be influenced and how far the corruption has reached. The Republicans have fallen so far into this they can rarely survive without going along fully or leaving as some very good independent thinking Republicans have chosen to do recently. Did I address it better this time? I do agree with you.
