"Our results indicate that Stand Your Ground laws are associated with a significant increase in the number of homicides among whites, especially white males. According to our estimates, between 4.4 and 7.4 additional white males are killed each month as a result of these laws. We find no evidence to suggest that these laws increase homicides among blacks. Our results are robust to a number of specifications and unlikely to be driven entirely by the killings of assailants." - Chandler B. McClellan and Erdal Tekin, National Bureau of Economic Research
There seems to be a good bit of data showing that the "Stand Your Own Ground" Law is if fact color blind and bot racist. Though the law has been brought to the forefront through the Martin case by many Black organizations it is not a racist Law. Lot's of people get profiled for many different reasons. It appears people of all sizes, ages, and colors, and mentalities and have been killed or injured by people claiming this type of Law as a defense.
People that have been killed have committed such acts as ....Being drunk and going to the wrong house and knocking on the door too much, walking their dog on a metal chain in front of someone at a drive thru window, failing to take someone they knows threat to shoot them seriously when they didn't realize that person hadn't realized who they where, teen agers playing their music too loud and bothering a neighbor. With a fearful or anger issue neighbor close by you or even in the neighborhood or visiting or walking or driving down the street you need to really watch your behavior because these people tend to feel threatened easily. Just remember Martin and many others …you don't even have to be the one with the gun or picking the fight to get killed or shot.
While we might like to shoot those who scare, anger or annoy us....That just isn't the civilized way of living. Self-defense laws around forever do make sense. This law does not. There are people killing innocent people and minor, non-violent criminals and not even being hit with reckless homicide or manslaughter or even arrested.
