The second of two posts about Oklahoma, its Marriage Initiative promoting it as a solution to poverty.
The Heritage Foundation and Christian Right wing groups have spent a lot of money in states like Oklahoma promoting marriage as a solution to poverty.
They will tell you that children in married families are 82% less likely to be poor.
Superficially they may seem to have a case. However, using Oklahoma as an example, the reality behind the claim quickly falls apart.
The solution to poverty isn't simple but without jobs that pay a sustainable wage, marriage isn't the answer and is quite likely to make the problem worse.
