Corporate lobbying may have a bad name, but it remains a darn good investment.
Coffee Party USA's insight:

Excerpt:

Companies spent about $3.5 billion annually on lobbying at the end of the last decade, a nearly 90 percent increase from 1999 after adjusting for inflation, political scientist Lee Drutman notes in a forthcoming book, “The Business of America Is Lobbying.”

Why the dramatic leap? Most big companies long shied away from lobbying outside a narrow band of issues. That started to change in the mid-1990s. Under a pro-business Congress, which invited their participation in policy debates, industry groups won big victories such as permanent normal trade relations with China and the deregulation of telecommunications, Drutman said. Corporate executives saw how those victories made them money, and they shed their inhibitions about playing in the world of government….......

The fact that this practice is perfectly legal doesn’t change the fact that it’s a prime example of government corruption.

Mapping Out The Revolving Door Between Gov't And Big Business In Venn Diagrams

Mapping Out The Revolving Door Between Gov't And Big Business In Venn Diagrams | Coffee Party News | Scoop.it

Via Larry Lessig we get series of Venn diagrams showing the revolving door between big business and government. When people talk about regulatory capture, this is what they mean. When people talk about corruption and crony capitalism, this is what they mean. If you want a quick visual idea of why so few people trust this government to do the right thing for the people, rather than the big companies, this is why. [MORE diagrams]

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

A great diagram for every citizen to gaze upon! Thank You Larry Lessig of Harvard Law. Great Visual! Your friend Aaron would be proud of you.

Why not do both parties?
Monica S Mcfeeters's comment, March 7, 2013 12:36 PM
This is most likely incomplete or it may also be due to the fact that we have a Democratic president filling jobs at the moment. It seems to record mostly those current positions that overlapped in earlier periods & show up in both parties. There does appear to be influence no matter which party is in charge.

Also Aaron died as a result of Obama's (Bush's to a lesser degree) push to promote a cyberwar defenses and offenses and part of that means capturing and cornering talent like Aaron's to work for the government and corporate interest. I think many people don't realize that the Republicans aren't the only ones not playing in all the various power games fairly. All of them are reaching for the power of the web and being not clearly in control of it is scary to the so called and sometimes elected "ruling class" of all governments and businesses. The cyberwar is real and citizens all over the planet need to be fully aware that it may be the most serious war of all times and hold their own share of that power through activism, shopping habits and sending strong messages to officials all over the globe. The fight isn't just out of country hacks....It is over who will control the voice and the messages of the planet and the power it gives to many groups like this and totally different groups from this to connect to one another and collectively and individually seek answers to problems and discoveries we can't even imagine. And the longing to hold on to the old power structure is now challenged more than ever in history if people all over the world don't pay attention they will lose the war and never know it happened. Aaron's army goes on to make sure that doesn't happen. His death shows how serious all governments are taking this war. He faced more years in jail than a murderer in most states and all he was trying to do was make knowledge available as a cultural share. Now that's a scary odd war like we've never seen, but it is clearly real.

Share! Get in on this please!  What is broken won't be fixed without us!

Too few into the fight leaves risk of corruption at worst and failure at best.

Get behind those fighting in cyber wars with sharing and posting and calling representatives up through the White House. Know your neighbors and meet at kitchen tables.  In this case it appears we have big companies going to fight for us, and warning us for a while ....We've already laid or are laying individual cyber warriors on prison beds or in the ground. Research who has been arrested for hacking or cracking and what it was they did. Some were crooks but others were our warriors seeking proof of misdeeds towards us.

Hacker/crackers for causes are realizing that with each crack/hack they give more justification to invasion of all of our privacy by those they desire to expose and that seek to control us.  That should not be true because citizens collectively, did not give them cause for warrants and governments and companies are taking advantage of the situation. They should be gratefull as individuals for reason to act less cowardly on a personal level than their powerful positions allow them to do out of fear of losing control for governments or corporations. They should welcome the inclusion of their fellow citizens into the power sharing with relief. We have vast talents and ideas and together we are best.

These cyber warriors have given proof of two of the biggest invaders of privacy....Cracks of our governments (yes plural is right) collections and sharing back and forth NSA with other countries data and private corporations like Stratfor doing the same for global hire on a for-profit basis the world over have provided proof of what is going on...Now can we just act on what we citizens now have confirmed for us by these young individuals from behind the scenes. We want our cyber warriors innovating how to make the world a better place globally for all of us .....and not having to fight cyber wars.

Follow the whole topic broadly not just thru FOX or CNN or any other one source. It takes some effort to even have useful general knowledge of the battles and none are fairly addressed on mass media 4 minute or 1 hour sound bites. Do your history homework as well on Internet communications and privacy.

You can learn a lot in a week to get started really looking over things then stay on it....This will be a life long watch because there is way more to be gained from control of the internet than anything in history that ever tempted those that thirst for power and wealth…
