How Digital Learning Is Becoming The Fourth Literacy - Edudemic

How Digital Learning Is Becoming The Fourth Literacy - Edudemic | Coding in Schools | Scoop.it
Reading. Writing. Math. Those are the big ones, right? Up until recently, a lot of people would have probably said that was correct. But since it is 2013 and so much of our lives happen online, digital literacy is being added to the list.
Kirsty Watts's insight:

I think digital literacy will become just as important as reading, writing and maths. When will it become more important, is the question? Will reading, writing and math be taught by teaching code? I look forward to seeing what happens during my career in education.

I keep emphasizing the need for students to learn to code, or at least trying to do so. The world is becoming increasingly computer based and more and more jobs are demanding computer skills of this type. There a multitude of career options out there for those students who embrace this area of technology and a multitude of companies ready to snap them up. If you want a career that is interesting and creative, learn to code!!!!

10 Strategies To Get Your Students Coding - TeachThought

10 Strategies To Get Your Students Coding - TeachThought | Coding in Schools | Scoop.it

"Teachers struggle to teach budding minds important concepts, but the fact is that America is lacking in science and engineering. In a video aimed at students called What Most Schools Don’t Teach, Mark Zuckerberg tells students: “The whole limit of the system is there just aren’t enough people who are trained and have these skills today.”

The skills Zuckerberg is referring to are computer science and engineering. The ability to code will contribute an estimated 1.4 million jobs to the American economy, but there may not be enough American students to fill the demand. If you are like the growing numbers of teachers who want to introduce coding to the classroom, read on for tips to get students excited about coding."
