A too-early look at Big 12 Heisman hopes

A too-early look at Big 12 Heisman hopes | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  It seems a little early to predict that Bell will be in the Heisman running in 2013, afterall who had Johnny Manzeil in their early predictions last year...NO ONE!  But, Bell does have name recognition and the Sooners will sport a more modern attack next year regardless of which of the three quarterbacks is selected as starter, so it is defintely possible.  Boomer!

Article Excerpt: The Big 12 couldn't win a second consecutive Heisman Trophy after Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel bested Kansas State's Collin Klein, but the league might have a shot in 2013. Baylor's Lache Seastrunk already says he's going to win the trophy, but just in case he's wrong, let's look at the other possibilities.

There won't be any frontrunners from the Big 12 to begin the season, but the last three winners all came out of nowhere to win the award.

Here are the Big 12's best hopes for the award next season, in no particular order:

Blake Bell, QB, Oklahoma: We've got no idea how good Bell really is. Heck, he might not even win the job in the spring. But he's got the biggest name recognition of any of the Big 12's likely new starting quarterbacks in 2013, and despite what his poor attempts in the Belldozer suggest, he really can throw the ball. Playing for a national power and a likely Big 12 title contender help his hopes.

What Oklahoma Quarterback Landry Jones Has To Do To Win The Heisman

What Oklahoma Quarterback Landry Jones Has To Do To Win The Heisman | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it
We released the 2012 CBSSports.com Preseason Heisman Watch on Monday. Since then, we've followed that up with an in-depth look at the Heisman chances of each of the top 10 candidates.

Our next candidate breakdown is of Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, who checks in at No. 4 on our list.

Jones is quietly on his way to becoming one of the all-time NCAA passing leaders. Through three years as a starter for the Sooners, he's thrown for 12,379 passing yards and 93 touchdowns. He had the unenviable task of replacing 2008 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, but he's done a commendable job of living up to his standards.
