OU Football Article: Season’s Shortfalls Force Focus To Forefront | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

OU Football Article - By John Shinn The Norman Transcript

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — After a regular season that finished with a thud, the biggest question surrounding Friday’s Insight Bowl centers on just how excited Oklahoma is to be here.

With two days to go until the game, Sooner coach Bob Stoops has no complaints.

“They’ve really done well,” he said Wednesday at the game’s media day. “The last couple practices we’ve gone at it really well. Guys have been playing hard. They’ve been good in meetings, in at curfew. They’ve done what we’ve asked them to do.”

ESPN's McShay Says Landry Jones Fourth Best QB For 2012 Draft

ESPN's McShay Says Landry Jones Fourth Best QB For 2012 Draft | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Interesting analysis from McShay regarding Landry Jones and four other potential 2012 NFL Draft candidates at quarterback. He leaves off OSU's Weeden which I am sure will cause some drama and several people to question the legitimacy of his entire evaluation. It all seems a bit premature as it is rumoured that Landry will return to OU for his Senior year.  He did just get married to OU basketball standout Whitney Hand.  Interesting video...

Taylor McNamara, who formerly was committed to Arizona, while Mike Stoops was still head coach there has now committed to the Sooners. This is a great grab for the Sooners as the cubbards are nearly bare for tight ends at OU. He is the number 2 prep tight end according to Rivals.com and was chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in January. Taylor has a unique blend of size and ability that should be utilized at OU. Read more on SoonerScoop.com...

Pac-12 crew will call Insight Bowl

Pac-12 crew will call Insight Bowl | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

So, according to this article on CBSSports.com, "The officiating crew for the 2011 Insight Bowl between Iowa and Oklahoma will come from the Pac-12. It is one of two bowls featuring Big Ten teams featuring Pac-12 officials (the other being the Sugar Bowl between Michigan and Virginia Tech)."  I don't know about all of you, but I hope this crew doesn't include any of those yo-yos from the Oregon vs. OU debacle.  Pac-12 referrees in general are weaker than in the other BCS leagues.

Stoops Says Sooners' Defections Magnified Only Because Of Disappointing Season

Stoops Says Sooners' Defections Magnified Only Because Of Disappointing Season | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Yesterday Stoops Says "Sooners' Defections Magnified Only Because Of Disappointing Season.", in an attempt to stop the continuing questioning around the player issues.    He also said "this December has been no different than past Decembers, in terms of ridding the program of players with poor attitudes.", interesting that he felt compelled to answer the question for the first time though.  As far as, the only reason it is magnified is due to dissapointing season, well uummmmm no kidding!   Stoops would find it easier if he addressed things a little less terse.  It send signals that maybe it is just a cover.  The different OU Fan Boards have been alive with discussion aroud the defections.  Read more...

Will Habern Go To The NFL Or Stay With Sooners?

Will Habern Go To The NFL Or Stay With Sooners? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Center is one of those underrated position that everyone takes for granted.  But, it is an important position that can affect the outcome of a game if not properly filled.  Ben Habern is a talent at that position and except for his arm injury this season, he has played well and given the Sooners a solid anchor on the offensive line when playing.  It does seem premature for him to go to the NFL as he is not highly regarded amongst NFL Scouts at this time.  This could be because of his injury or the Sooners underwhelming season, regardless another year, especially another injury-free year should do nothing but imporve Habern's draft potential.  Read more...

Blog Post: Is the sky falling, or are those just the ashes? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

NewsOK - Travis Haney -- I had a message this morning from someone in the state of Texas, asking me what was going on at OU.  I’ll tell ya what’s going on at OU: It set out to win a national title, and now it’s playing in the Insight Bowl. Regardless of the circumstances, there’s fallout from that. Notice that I said fallout and not falling sky.  This is normal. I repeat, this is normal. After a disappointing season, there’s a lot of static and a few changes. After a few consecutive disappointing seasons, that’s when a head coach’s job comes into question. Only the extreme are suggesting as much at OU. Read on...

Stats Don't Lie - OU's Defense is Struggling!

Stats Don't Lie - OU's Defense is Struggling! | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

No doubt, OU's Defense is definitely under the gun after this season's sub-par performance as this NewsOk article suggests.  But, the other interesting item to look at is it's defensive performance over the last couple of years.  Except for stong showing in 2009, OU's defense has dropped dramatically in Total Defense and other important defensive statistics.  This may help reveal the unexplainable let-downs like losing to Texas tech at home this year that puzzles coaches, players, fans and the press.  Several people have tried to blame this largely on injuries, but honestly that is just part of the game.  Defensively even up to the Tech game they had limited injuries that culd possibly account for this level of drop-down.  Regardless, the coaches should have had the second teamers ready to step and play at a high-level.  It is simple...look at the stats in this article they do not lie.  They have a chance at a small amount of redemption this Friday in The Insight Bowl.  They need to focus, lose the excuses and play ball!
