With Bedlam Looming, OU Must Fix Run Defense

OU could do little to stop West Virginia's running game, but still won. To have hopes of beating Oklahoma State and its two-headed rushing attack, the Sooners will have to find some quick fixes.

As he sauntered to the postgame podium late Saturday night, Mike Stoops was handed a copy of the stat sheet."Do I have to look at them?" said Stoops, as he flipped the paper over. "I don't want to see them."

In a 50-49 win Stoops' defense deserved to lose, the Sooners couldn't pressure Geno Smith, couldn't cover Stedman Bailey and, most certainly, couldn't tackle Tavon Austin. Stoops was brought back to the save the Sooners' defense, not surrender 778 total yards, which was far more than Brent Venables or any other OU defensive coordinator ever allowed.

"A humbling night in a lot of ways," Stoops said. "Very disappointed in our containment of the football, our ability to tackle in space. Virtually the whole second half was a fiasco.

Sooners & Nebraksa To Renew Rivalry With Home-And-Home Series Starting 2021

Sooners & Nebraksa To Renew Rivalry With Home-And-Home Series Starting 2021 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU  Commentary:  This is so good to see as this historic rivalry is one of the best ever and one of the nost revered in college football.  It was tragic when Nebraska left for the Big Ten largely because of the Longhorns and this home and home series will help soothe those of us that have enjoyed this rivalry for so long.  What do you think?

Article Excerpt: One of the most respected rivalries in all of college football could be renewed starting in 2012 as the Omaha World Herald is reporting both Oklahoma and Nebraska have reached an agreement in principle.

According to a report from the Omaha World Herald, Oklahoma and Nebraska have reached an agreement to renew their rivalry with a home-and-home series starting in 2021. The story states that the first game is expected to be in Norman with the Sooners making the return trip to Lincoln in 2022.

There has been talk from both sides about renewing one of the most respected rivalries ever since the Huskers left the Big 12 Conference. It's something everyone involved, from the schools to the respective fanbases, had expressed a great deal of interest in so news of a pending agreement is very exciting (even if they are nine years away).
