Notre Dame And OU Could Meet Again; This Time In The Fiesta Bowl

Notre Dame And OU Could Meet Again; This Time In The Fiesta Bowl | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  I for one would love to see a rematch between OU and Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.  It would give them the chance to redeem themselves and put OU back in the top rung heading into next year.  What do you think?  Boomer!

Article Excerpt: The bowl possibilities for Oklahoma, with its two current losses, are aplenty. If the Sooners do end up in a BCS bowl game, it is almost certain to be the Fiesta or Rose Bowl.

If the Sooners do end up in a BCS bowl game, it is almost certain to be the Fiesta or Rose Bowl. Scenarios by which Oklahoma plays in the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl are far-fetched and highly improbable.

Too Funny! Mack Brown Apologizes For 66-17 Loss To OU Next Month

Too Funny! Mack Brown Apologizes For 66-17 Loss To OU Next Month | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

This article was too funny!  It literally took me several tries to write this post after reading this article.  To say the heat is on for Mack Brown in Austin would be an understatement.  The press, boosters and everyone are wearing thin down in the heart of the longhorn state.

The article starts out with a hilarious future fable statement by Mack Brown:

"I want to apologize to all Texas fans in advance," said a visibly-shaken Brown.  "66-17 is unacceptable.  I'm as disappointed as anybody about how the team will play against Oklahoma on October 12. But you can't look back at next month's loss and torture yourself with ‘What ifs?' You have to move on."

The coupe de grace was Brown saying: "Oklahoma will do what they need to win," added Brown.  "But we won't."

I have to say the Texas media can really put on a show.  Now, lets hope the Sooners do take care of business next month and make this fable a reality.

Who Are The Most Important Players For OU In 2013?

Who Are The Most Important Players For OU In 2013? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Another July or August day and another article trying to determine what is the most important elements and players for the Sooners to have a strong season.  This Fox Southwest Sports article names the five most important players in their opinion for the Sooners in 2013.  They name Chuka Ndulue, Aaron Colvin, Trey Metoyer, Trey Millard and Blake Bell as the five that must perform this fall.  My list would be a little different as they are assuming the Blake Bell will be named the start, yet Stoops has made a concerted effort to say it is still an open competition and some of the those that have been around this sumer claim it is between Bell and Kendall Thompson and that they have been taking the same amount of snaps.  So, I would say the starting quarterback without actually naming one.

I would also go with junior college transfer defensive tackle Quincy Russell over Chuka Ndulue as the one of the most imortant as he will have a dramatic impact on the success of the Sooner's defensive line this fall.  He is a strong player with a huge upside that many are penciling in as a starter before he even steps onto the field.  Russell's presence this fall will not only help the rotation, but provide a solid player that can fill a desperate need for the Sooners.

Lastly, I would not have metoyer on the list as the recieving corps has a huge stable of capable players that will provide a steady rotation and ensure the Sooner's passig game is a go.  I would slot one of the linebackers or cornerback Cortez Johnson as a player(s) that is crucial to the Sooner's defensive success this fall.  If the linebackers and/or Cortez make their mark this fall, then Ou will be the benficiary and have a defense that will rank in the top 30 and help the Sooners succeed in a big way.

Who do you think are the five ost importnat players for the Sooners this fall?  Do you agree with their list or mine?  Let us know!

OU Needed Jalen Saunders Last Year And Will Call On Him Again In 2013

OU Needed Jalen Saunders Last Year And Will Call On Him Again In 2013 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

2012 was an tumlultous and exciting year for Jalen Saunders after he transferred from Fresno State to the Sooners.  He waited for the NCAA to rule on his elegibility and even though they made him sit out the first four games, he stills reeled in 62 passes for 829 yards and three touchdowns.

As, we head into the 2013 season, Saunders will again be called on to provide some explosiveness offensively and on special teams.  All this from a 5'9" reciever, who was never recruited initially by the Sooners.  Only after he diecided to transfer out of Fresno did he become of interest to the Sooners.  Now, he is one of their main returning offensive weapons.

Wghta do you think about Jalen Saunders prospects this Fall?

OU Has The Toughest Non-Conference Football Schedule In 2013

OU Has The Toughest Non-Conference Football Schedule In 2013 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The University of Oklahoma is determined to take the hard road to championships, as they once again have an extremely difficult non-conference schedule.

First, they have Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, a team that won eight games last year and have a strong returning quarterback.  They beat Arkansas and took both Baylor and Auburn to the wire last season. They will be a early test for the new look OU defense.

Another early contest has OU going up against an 11-win conference winner in the University of Tulsa. Another team with a returning qurterback Cody Green, who has the Golden Hurricane reaching for the stars.  OU has a strong record against Tulsa, especially at home, but it will not be an easy game.

The hardest non-conference foe will undoubtebly be Notre dame in South Bend.  The irish went 12-1 in 2012 and only lost in the national championship game to Alabama.  OU came up short at home against Notre Dame last year and the will need more than the loss of Irish quartback Goulson to beat the Irish.  This game will determie if the Sooners have realistic national title aspirations or not.

Athletic Director Joe Castiglione was serious when he and Coach Stoops said they were goig to play the top tems and let the wins and schedule determine their destiny.  The non-conference schedule will be a hot topic if the Sooners struggle this season, as wins ultimately have a large affect on recruiting, which has a strong downhill affect on future wins.

Confirmed: OU Brings On Virginia Tech's Pete Hughes As Head Baseball Coach | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

It has been confirmed by several sources now that the University of Oklahoma has hired Pete Hughes of Virginia Tech as it's new head baseball coach.  He will be officially announced today at a 3:30PM, on-campus press conference.

The Sooners recently played Coach Hughe's Virgina Tech team in the NCAA Blacksburg Regionals, which the Sooners won 10-4.  Coach Hughe's overall record at Virginia tech is an impressive 222-174, including a 40-22 record this last season enroute to their own regional.

Hughes spent eight seasons at Boston College before Virginia Tech and it was speculated he might join Auburn before OU close the deal.

Lets give Coach Hughes a warm Sooner Nation welcome!  Boomer!

Many Former OU Players Are Thrilled That Baseball Coach Golloway Is Gone

Many Former OU Players Are Thrilled That Baseball Coach Golloway Is Gone | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Numerous former OU players have now come out and stated publicly thier happiness that former OU baseball coach Sonny Golloway has left for Auburn.  They claim he was  two-faced, crooked and alienated former players and standouts from being involved with the program.  Golloway has retorted with dissapointment, but doesn't specifically dispute any of their claims.

The surprising thing about this controversy is that it is not just players and former players from Golloway's tenure at OU, but it is many former players from previous eras that have bad things to say about Golloway.

The silence from the administration in regards to these issues speak volumes, as it is becoming more obvious by the day that Coach Golloway leaving Norman is the best things for all involved.  It also goes a long way to explaining why Golloway would leave a prestigious baseball program for less successful Auburn.

What do you think about Coach Golloway sudden departure?

A Notre Dame Preview Of Their Opponent - The Oklahoma Sooners

A Notre Dame Preview Of Their Opponent - The Oklahoma Sooners | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Here is a Notre Dame preview of the Sooners' return to South Bend this fall.  They provide a detailed preview of the Sooners in all phases of the game.  It covers offense, defense, special teams and prediction for the game.  They seem to think that Notre Dame will win the game even though their starting quarterback Goulson has been suspended for this seson.  They put a little to much into the star-rating of the Sooner recruits as Sam Bradford and others have shown being a three-star is really not indicitive of their real potential, as Bradford was a five-star plus during his Junor and Senior years in Norman.  It is highly likely that several of the current three-stars on the Sooner roster will become much better under the Stoops brothers tutelge.

Also, I think they are a little optimistic about the Notre Dame;s chances and do not understand that we have numerous other players with playing time, even if they were not starters.  They are also a little pessimistic as to the potential of our secondary, as the Sooners will actually have more speed in the defensive backfield than they have had in several seasons.  There is a lot of potential defensively.  The only real concern is the defensive line as they will attempt to use some players that have yet to show they can be big itme division one players.  Along with the new schemes, if they can fill the defenisve tackle gaps, the Sooners may have strong defenisve presence.

Overaall, their Sooner write-up is long and very-detailed and every Sooner fan should read it, as it provides a outside looking in view of the Sooners and their potential this season.

Bob Stoops Wants A National Championship And Nothing Less

Bob Stoops Wants A National Championship And Nothing Less | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

In this Sporting news story on OU's Bob Stoops they discuss how losing three of the four national championship games they have played in since Stoops began at OU in 1999 does satisfy Coach Stoops or his critics.  They tdiscuss why he is combative and what drove him to make staff changes this off-season.

One very interesting area of discussion ids how Bob's brothers Mike and mark state that their brother was stung by the criticism by former players after the embarassing loss to texas A&M in the 2012 Cotton Bowl.

This is a long and very interestig article that any Soooner fan should read. It mentions how Bob should become the winningest coach in Sooner history this season and yet there is still something missing. So, this leads to an ending that is especially important as Coach Stoops states adamantly

"I want more; I want the national championship,” Stoops said. “I’m not complaining, but I’m not going to apologize for the success we’ve had here. Now that (winning the Big 12) has become the norm, that isn’t good enough. Just a national championship is good enough.”

This doesn't sound like a coach that plans on coasting or not having the fire, as some of his critics have claimed.  This sounds like a coach with a chip on nhis shoulder and something to prove.

Additional OU Football Game Times And TV Broadcasters Announced | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Big12 Conference released additional early-season University of Oklahoma football game times. Fox Sports Network will be televising the Louisiana-Monroe game on a pay-per-view basis. The pay-per-view basis has caused some grumbling amongst the Sooner faithful and OU's AD Joe Castiglione came out in defense of the showing and said that the broadcast rights for the game are owned by Fox and they alone determined the pay-per-view status.  So, for those unable to make the game in-person you will need to shell out forty dollars to catch it on Fox.

The trend towards more night games continues for the Sooners to edge into prime time viewing.  We can expect it to continue as the Oklahoma Sooners are an elite brand with a large national following.

OU Advances Into WCWS Finals To Face Tennessee | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The OU Women's Softball team did what they have done all season and relied on pitching and bats.  Also, like many other games during the tournament they have consistently come from behind to take a big lead into the final innings.  This team seems to have more than just talent and skills, they also have an unmistakable mystique and strong teamwork that tends to overwhelm their opponents and this was on display last night as they soundly beat Washington. Lauren Chamberlain's solo home run was just another example of this mystique, as it all but ensured a victory against the Huskies.

The Sooners now advance into the WCWS Finals and face Tennessee in a best of three game series starting tonight on ESPN2 at 7Pm CST.

So, Sooner fans let's get out and see them or watch them on ESPN2 and support our Sooner women on the quest for a National Title.

Many In The Sooner Nation Are Upset Over The Offensive Game Plan Used Against Texas

Many In The Sooner Nation Are Upset Over The Offensive Game Plan Used Against Texas | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

There is a lot of angst in the Sooner Nation surrounding Josh Heupel and his ineffective game plan and inability to adjust last Saturday. It reminds many of them of the last couple of seasons where things seem to stall and yet the approach and gameplan are stuck to regardless of the results. Heupel's post-game comments where he stated "He never considered switching from Bell during the game" only served to raise the frustration.  As what would he have done if Bell had been knocked out of the game?  Use Knight as a drop back passer?  For many it is almost unimaginable that a Division 1 offensive coordinator would not have a backup plan that could still potentially win the game.  It just seems to reack of arrogance and poor planning.

Others point out that Heupel's is now a relative of Boren's and is not concerned what others think.  Whatever it is the Sooner Nation as a whole is not amused and has plenty to say about it.  What do you think? Boomer!

Are New Nike Uniforms In the Future For The Sooners?

Are New Nike Uniforms In the Future For The Sooners? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Take a look at this good article by Berry tramel at NewsOk about Bob Stoops recent comments potentially opening the door for some new uniforms to satisfy the new-age recruits that are being drawn away from OU.  According to the article Coach Stoops states:

“You’re never above experimenting here or there,” Stoops said. “Some time you have a chance to do it, you never know. You know why, too, it’s fair to say.”

that is really interestig and some what of a reversal given Coach Stoops and the Administration have come out several times over the years against it or at least not willing to consider it.  But with Nebraska and several other elite powers now moving towards integrating some new uniforms into the mix, the Sooners may be looking to do someting.  Stoops also commented that Nike would love for the Sooners to try a new look uniform for a game or two.  That stands to reason as they have really pushed the boundaries of good taste with Oregon and others.  Coach Stoops and the Sooners would obviously be much more reserved if they decided to move forward and wear a new-age uniform for a game or two next season, but the discussions have obviously been had.

In the voting poll in the article it is currently split right down the middle at 50/50.  Interesting results.  Lets see what the future brings.

What do you think about the Sooner wearing a new uniform for a game or two?

The Sooners Are Ranked #2 By The Media's Preseason Poll

The Sooners Are Ranked #2 By The Media's Preseason Poll | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Big 12 Conference released the media's preseason poll and the Sooners came in at #2.  The OSU Cowboys were ranked #1, with Texas rounding out the top three.  Some found the Sooners ranking at number two a little surprising, as most of the pre-season polls have OSU and Texas ahead of OU for the upcoming season.

I find the ranking low, as i believe the Sooners have the right mix to win the Big12 outright in 2013.  Notre Dame is really the only questionable game, especially since it is an away game.  OSU has an in-experienced quarterback and it has of questions on defense and Texas has a suspect quarterback and attempting to ultilize the hurry-up offense, so both teams have issues to resolve before they walk into the top spot.

A Look At The 2013 Oklahoma Sooners By Position

A Look At The 2013 Oklahoma Sooners By Position | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Oklahoman has prepared a great article that covers the 2013 Oklahoma Sooners by position for both offense and defense.

They are predicting Blake Bell will start at quarterback and have the running backs and wide-outs as the strengths of the team, especially from a depth perspective.  The players they have starting on defense are for the most part non-controversial.

The 2013 are deep on talent, except for defensive tackles, which was a reall weakness for the 2012 squad.  Let's hope they are able to convert some defensive end prospects and that Quincy Russell makes it into Norman and becomes a starter before the first game.

This 2013 rendition of the Oklahoma Sooner will be a fun bunch to watch as they have strong potential, but will need some luck to be in national contention.

Which Incoming Players Will Be Difference Makers This Fall For The Sooners?

Which Incoming Players Will Be Difference Makers This Fall For The Sooners? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Interesting article out of The Oklahoman about which five incoming OU football players will make the biggest impact this season.  You can give or take on their selections, but just getting JUCOs St. John and Russell actually into camp is the first worry, as they are both late already working on getting qualified and approved by the NCAA.

Assuming he arrives in camp by mid-July, my two choices out fo those five are Hatari Byrd and Quincy Russell.  Byrd has the talent, size and skills to make a difference in a secondary that has struggled the last couple of seasons.  There was a lot of positive coach speak about Safety Gabe Lynn this spring as there had been in previous seasons, only to see him torched in the regular season, so Byrd will likely get a shot to play and make the best of it.

Russell is just a big athletic defensive tackle who is going to be called on and quickly.  The defensive tackle position for the Sooner is there biggest area of weakness and immediate help is required.  Most of the current defensive tackles in camp are better suited as backups or defensive ends.  Russell will get his chance and he has all the tools to be a really good one for the Sooners.

Who do you think are the most likely incoming differnce makers for the Sooners this fall?

OU's offensive Line Ranked Ranked # 5 In The Big12 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Bleacher Report has ranked the Oklahoma Sooners offensive line number five out of ten teams.  It is an interesting ranking as the Sooner's offensive line has a lot of returning expereinced players and a load of incoming talent.  This is important, as the Sooners will be employing some zone-read along with the spread this year.  So, the offense will be very dependent on a strong offensive line.

In theis article they state: "Last year, two of the three best offensive lines in the Big 12 won the conference."  So, it is easy to see why having a strong and talented offensive line will be critical to OU's offesnive success this season.

Listen Up SEC, In Academics The Sooner Athletes Ranked Among The Nation's Best! | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

While folks much smarter than me ponder the suppossed Big12 conspiracy against the SEC, it is amazing the high level in which the Oklahoma athetic programs compete at, whille ranking amongst the nation's best in academics.  The pride, dedication and commitment that the University of Oklahoma's Athletic Department puts on academics is not only admirable, but has become a strong recruiting tool.  Numerous recruits in all sports talk about the educational support programs provided by OU as one of the primary triggers for their committing to the University of Oklahoma.

Afterall, most of these student-athletes will not be making millions in the NBA or NFL, but will need to have a diploma and education to carry them throughout their professional life.  The coaches in all the sports seem to highlight this fact and go out of the way to make the educational support programs part of a recruit's official and unofficial visit to the university.

This is why several recruits that could not get into Nebraska, OU, Kansa and others have found themselves entering an SEC, Conference USA ot other conference where some (not all - Vanderbilt, Tulsa, etc...) have lower academic standards and can accept an athlete that may not be able to academically compete at other higher-learning institutions.

So, hats off to the Sooners for their focus on education and athletics and ensuring those that attend OU go into the world with the tools to be successful.

The Big12's Payout Locks In A 10-Team league For Now

The Big12's Payout Locks In A 10-Team league For Now | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Well $22 million per team for the Big12 payout is better than the SEC's payout of $20.7 and will likely ensure the Big12 stays at 10 teams for the foreseeable future, especially since the teams kept their third-tier rights.   Not too mention that there really isn't a must have candidate to join the Big12 at this point.  Louisville was the last strong candidate and they are off the table.  That leaves Cincinnatti, UCONN and a cast of others that really don't bring anything special to the Big12.  So settle in for now and enjoy the ten team Big12, as that is what we have for the forseeable future.

OU needs to focus on improving their product on the field and re-gaining their elite status.  That alone will bring in more money through BCS bowl dollars this year and potential playoff dollars beginning next year.  Not too mention it would do wonders for the recruiting.

Is There A Big12 Conspiracy Against The SEC?

Is There A Big12 Conspiracy Against The SEC? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Well the SEC faithful are claiming there is a Big12 conspiracy to keep the SEC from securing two of the four spots starting with the playoffs next year.  In fact here is one of the quotes fro the article about Bob Stoops:

"Last month, Bob Stoops ran his mouth about the SEC. We sufficiently debunked his comments, but now it is apparent that something bigger is going on."

I find it funny that they actually believe they successfully de-bunked Coach Stoops comments.  It is laughable!

The article also points to ESPN's Travis Haney as one of the folks who is un-covering the suppossed conspiracy and exposing it to the world via some tweets.  What a stretch...he is just reporting some coaches from a conference backing each other, much like the SEC coaches have done repeadetely in the past.

I still believe that the reason why so many in the SEC got riled up is that Stoops struck a nerve.  A nerve that is based more on the relaity of the situation than those in the SEC would like to admit.

Do Natural Disasters Have An Affect on Recruiting In College Football? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

In the wacky world of college football recruiting anything can happen and/or affect a recruit's college choice. So, with the tornadoes and tragic loss of life, one has to wonder what affect that may have on a recruits choice, when looking at Oklahoma schools.  After all an EF-5 can be a very terrifying and intimidating thing.

In this article they state: "Plus, it’s not like this is the only part of the country that faces dangerous weather. In the southeastern United States, you have hurricanes. On the west coast you have earthquakes. In the northeast and upper midwest you have arctic winters with seemingly month-long blizzards."

So, it may surprise some, but in the midst of these natural threats lie some of the best teams and schools in college football.

Interesting story about the Stoops family's home life and the juggling required to balance family and being the head coach of a high-profile college football team.   The article lists some of Bob's favorite items such as vanilla ice cream, coffee and Seinfeld.  It shows the human-side of Oklahoma's head coach and how Oklahoma has grown on him and his affinity for the way of life afforded him and his family.

The article starts with the early days stating: "Bob Stoops became the head football coach for the University of Oklahoma Sooners in 1999 when his daughter Mackenzie was just two and wife Carol was pregnant with their twin sons." and brings the article forward to current day.

One of the most interesting items in the article, is how his dads passing at the young age of 54 has affected how he parents his own kids.

Phil Steele Names 2013 All-Big 12 Team; Four Sooners Make The First Team | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Phil Steele has released his 2013 All-Big 12 Team.  The Sooners placed four on the first team, three players on the second team, four on the third team and finally five on the fourth team.  Interestingly, Blake bell was named the fourth team quarterback.  Does Phil know someting we don't?  Not likely, he is probably just speculating based on his experience.

Steele is a famous sportswriter, analyst and highly respected prognosticator, who focuses on college and professional football. He has traditionally ranked the Sooners high in his polls and named numerous Sooners to his All Big12 and All American teams.

It will be interesting to compare his pre-season selections with his post-season selections to see how things shake out.  My guess is the first team will look wildly different as how many would have predicted the success of K-state's Collin Klein in the pre-season two years ago..nobody.

What do you think of Phil Steele's selections?
