For OU And Texas Change Is Afoot In 2013

For OU And Texas Change Is Afoot In 2013 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary: In this post by Travis Haney on his ESPN.com Blog, he discusses in summary the many changes that OU and Texas are making to adjust for the Read-Option (Think Johnny Manzeil) and the SEC's continued dominance of the National Championship position.  It was obvious and the two fan bases were literally up in arms over the lack of meaningful change by both coaching staffs.  While their issues may be slightly different, the need to adjust to some of the popular schemes that are driving the high flying offenses of some of the elite teams like Oregon, Alabama and Texas A&M was apparent.

Now, both teams have made changes to their respective coaching staffs, modified their schemes and are drilling their players to execute against these changes and become highly competent quickly, as the two fan bases are restless.  Although, the Texas folks have a steeper hill to climb given their record and struggles over the last three years.

Both, OU and Texas' upcoming spring games are going to be televised on Fox SouthWest and Longhorn network respectively.  So, it will be interesting to see how these changes take hold and whether they will allow either the Sooners or Longhorns back to the "Elite" level this season or next.

Oklahoma Sooners Need Help From Texas To Make BCS

Oklahoma Sooners Need Help From Texas To Make BCS | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commnetary:  Well this article is right about one of the BCS qualifying scenarios, but there are others.  So, no one needs to get to caught up in the "help from Texas thing" as it will be a crazy game i am sure of that.  K-State is the better team, but as we have seen so far this season anything can happen on any given day.  I still believe that the Sooners will get a BCS bowl bid, but it will be close.  What do you think?

Article Excerpt: The BCS Championship and Rose Bowl matchups will be decided this weekend. The ACC, Big 12 and Big East champions will all get an automatic bid, leaving only three at-large bids. Florida and Oregon are likely to be guaranteed a bid with each school being ranked in the top 5 of the BCS, leaving one bid open. If Kent State beats Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship this weekend, it will likely take the final at-large bid by jumping into the top 16.

The Sooners need some help.

Oklahoma has to beat TCU in its final conference game and then root for Texas. The Sooners have to hope that a team they beat by 42 points can upset Kansas State at home. If Texas is unable to beat Kansas State, then Oklahoma may be shut out of the BCS picture completely.

Sooners Defensive Line Makes A Stand; Impresses OU Fans And Depresses Texas Fans

Sooners Defensive Line Makes A Stand; Impresses OU Fans And Depresses Texas Fans | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Oklahoma's defensive linemen heard all the naysayers. So it was gratifying to shut them up in a dominating performance against Texas.

The Sooners defensive line heard the chatter.

Oklahoma's not strong enough, Oklahoma's not physical enough, Oklahoma can't hold up against tough running games.

Entering Saturday's Red River Rivalry game against Texas, the questions about OU's defensive interior, nationally and locally, put the line in the spotlight.

"People saying we don't have guys like GK [Gerald McCoy], Frank [Alexander], Jeremy Beal, Auston English," defensive end R.J. Washington said. "They've been talking about me, Casey [Walker] and J-Mac [Jamarkus McFarland]. They always say Casey is too short, and I never make plays, David [King] never makes plays.

"For two years, they've been talking about us and what we were going to do and having 'down' years because we're the weak spot."

Then the Sooners coaching staff pushed things to another level.

Bar None - No College Football Rivalry Beats Texas-Oklahoma

Bar None - No College Football Rivalry Beats Texas-Oklahoma | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary: Is everyone ready for the 107th Red River Rivalry? It is time for the Sooners to step up and take care of business and punch the Longhorns right across the tenderloin and send Bevo back to Austin as ground beef. This game could be the cinder to start the fire and burn their way to the top of the Big12 and more....

Article Excerpt: Visiting the Baltimore Ravens' locker room this week for a future story, I ran into rookie kicker Justin Tucker, who was preparing at this time last year for the University of Texas' annual game at the Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma.

What's the difference as a Longhorn, I asked him, playing against Oklahoma and Texas A&M?

"Playing against Texas A&M is like playing against your little brother," he said. "Playing against Oklahoma is like playing against your mortal enemy."

Big 12's Chuck Neinas On Expansion: 'Right Now, People Seem To Be Satisfied With 10'

Big 12's Chuck Neinas On Expansion: 'Right Now, People Seem To Be Satisfied With 10' | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Big 12's magic number remains 10.

Acting commissioner Chuck Neinas, who brokered a landmark new postseason game with the Southeastern Conference, said conference athletic directors discussed expansion three weeks ago in Phoenix.

"The athletic directors ... seemed very comfortable with 10," Neinas told Austin's "The Horn" KTXX-FM (104.9) on Monday. "But there's nothing more consistent in life than change. Right now, people seem to be satisfied with 10."

Texas football Coach Mack Brown Says He Won't Retire After OU Whipping

Texas football Coach Mack Brown Says He Won't Retire After OU Whipping | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  Isn't it interesting how the tables have turned on the two programs in just a few short weeks.  This further illustrates the addage that "it usually isn't as bad as it seems or as good as it seems, but somewhere in the middle".  The Sooners took the Longhorns out behind the woodshed and wnet old school on them, leaving Mack to pick up the pieces.  It is interesting the lack of commentary by DeLoss Dodds (UT AD) in the last couple of days.  Is that a show of support or lack thereof?

Article Excerpt: Mack Brown isn't going anywhere. On Monday, the Texas coach said he has no plans to retire despite speculation about his future with the Longhorns following a 63-21 drubbing by Oklahoma.

Texas is 6-9 against OU under Brown, including three straight losses.

"I'm way too competitive and have way too much pride to leave something bad," Brown said. "I'm going to get this fixed."

During the Longhorns' team meeting Sunday night, Brown told his players he wasn't quitting on them and expects them to do the same.

Oklahoma destroys Texas in highlight-reel show 63-21

Oklahoma destroys Texas in highlight-reel show 63-21 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it
The Oklahoma Sooners ran roughshod over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday in Dallas.

Twenty yards downfield, Trey Millard hurdled a Texas safety. While still in midair, he crushed the other safety. And then he kept going, rumbling 73 yards to set up another Oklahoma touchdown.

As much as anything, the play summed up the Sooners' 63-21 victory against their Red River Rivals. The final score is a bit deceptive. It was 36-2 at halftime – 30 minutes of hurdling and crushing and rumbling – at which point the old Cotton Bowl half-emptied.

OU vs. Texas: Different Stakes In 2012

OU vs. Texas: Different Stakes In 2012 | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  One day till kickoff in one of the most storied match-ups in all of sports.  Yes, the Red River Rivalry is set to kickoff at 11AM tomorrow and the Sooners are itching to keep some positive momentum going in 2012 and scratch out a win against Mack Brown's Longhorns.  it should be a tight and hard fought battle, but i believe the Sooners come out on top.  What do you think?

Article Excerpt: The Red River Shootout has traditionally been a battle to see who would win the Big 12, but this year the two arch-rivals are playing to stave off elimination in the conference title race.

The Red River Shootout has long been the annual contest for conference and regional dominance. Texas and OU have combined to win over half (9 of 17) of the Big 12 championships, with the winner of the annual Cotton Bowl game claiming 7 of those crowns.

Bob Stoops took over the head coaching position at Oklahoma only 1 year after Mack Brown did at Texas. In their collective era, the Sooners have dominated with an 8-5 record, including 3 blowouts and 7 Big 12 championships.

However, this year both teams are struggling to maintain leverage in a conference of teams that have utilized the spread offense, the increase in quarterbacks produced by Texas high schools and increasing TV revenues to thin the margin between the Red River contestants and the rest of the pack.

Sooners, Longhorns Continue Their Storied Rivalry This Weekend In Dallas

Sooners, Longhorns Continue Their Storied Rivalry This Weekend In Dallas | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

After coming off a decisive win against Texas Tech last weekend, No. 13 Oklahoma now turns its sights on No. 15 Texas in a pivotal contest that could determine the team’s fate this season when the archrivals square off at 11 a.m. Saturday at the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Both teams come into the matchup with a conference loss, and both are ranked just outside the top 10 in the national polls.

The winner of the 107th edition of the Red River Rivalry will make an important step toward regaining momentum in the race for the Big 12 title. The loser most likely will find itself two games behind No. 5 West Virginia and No. 6 Kansas State with a much harder road to travel in order to become a league and national contender for the respective title games.
