Sooners, Cowboys Prepare For Bedlam

Sooners, Cowboys Prepare For Bedlam | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary: This is going to be an exciting game that will be determined, in my opinion, by OU's ability to stop the run (OSU's Randle is a strong back) and on turn-overs.  If the Sooners can keep Randle in check and come out with a positive turn-over margin versus the Cowboys, then it should be a another Sooner Bedlam win.  What do you think?

Article Excerpt: After what happened at West Virginia Saturday night, history will be kind to the Mountaineers' Tavon Austin. His 572 all-purpose yards fell six shy of an NCAA record.

It will be kind to Stedman Bailey. His 13 catches for 205 yards and four touchdowns complemented Austin's 334 rushing yards dynamically.

History will be damning to the Oklahoma defense. Before Saturday, the most yards OU had ever surrendered in a single game was 616.

West Virginia went for 778, including 458 on the ground.

This just seven days after Baylor had, in the words of OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, "opened up Pandora's box" with 252 rushing yards.

OU, OSU Prepare For This Year's Biggest Series...It's Bedlam!

OU, OSU Prepare For This Year's Biggest Series...It's Bedlam! | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Oklahoma State's 6-1 shutdown of Oklahoma two Tuesdays ago didn't mean a thing in the Big 12 baseball standings.

Yet what about as a precursor to this weekend's three-game conference series?

“Seeing them will be good,” Sooner pitcher Damien Magnifico said immediately after taking the loss in the first game. “We're going to come back and we'll come back strong.”

With Bedlam Looming, OU Must Fix Run Defense

OU could do little to stop West Virginia's running game, but still won. To have hopes of beating Oklahoma State and its two-headed rushing attack, the Sooners will have to find some quick fixes.

As he sauntered to the postgame podium late Saturday night, Mike Stoops was handed a copy of the stat sheet."Do I have to look at them?" said Stoops, as he flipped the paper over. "I don't want to see them."

In a 50-49 win Stoops' defense deserved to lose, the Sooners couldn't pressure Geno Smith, couldn't cover Stedman Bailey and, most certainly, couldn't tackle Tavon Austin. Stoops was brought back to the save the Sooners' defense, not surrender 778 total yards, which was far more than Brent Venables or any other OU defensive coordinator ever allowed.

"A humbling night in a lot of ways," Stoops said. "Very disappointed in our containment of the football, our ability to tackle in space. Virtually the whole second half was a fiasco.

Big 12 Expansion To 12 Teams, OU, OSU Open To It

Big 12 Expansion To 12 Teams, OU, OSU Open To It | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Big 12 Conference may be comfortable at 10, but don't be surprised if the league decides to go to 11, 12 or more teams in the near future.

It would appear Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are both open to some sort of expansion in the Big 12.

If it adds value and stability to the league then OU and OSU will jump on board, but there doesn't appear to be any consensus among the league members to a certain number or if any additional members are needed.

"It is easy to add slices to the pie," said OU athletic director Joe Castiglione. "It is harder to grow the pie."
