OU Men's Basketball Season Comes To An End; But Brighter Days Ahead

OU Men's Basketball Season Comes To An End; But Brighter Days Ahead | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary: The OU men's basketball team's season came to end last night as the lost to San Diego Stae University 70-55 to end the tourney hopes.

But, there are brighter days ahead as Coach Kruger has some new young offensive talent joining the Sooners for next season and they really just need a bit more offense to be really competitive.  Their defense was good this season, but their offense was up and down a little too much.

The Sooner Nation should be really proud of the 20-12 season capped by an invitation to the NCAA tourney.  Boomer!

Is The NCAA Tourney In The Sooners Future?

Is The NCAA Tourney In The Sooners Future? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  It is amazing how far this team as come this early in the season.  Lon Kruger has been a real blessing for the Sooners, as he coaches and reppresents the university in such a top-flight fashion. As the article discusses rthe next seven games will be very interesting a provide a litmus test as to how far this Sooner squad can go.  Must say though kruger has brought this program back faster than i thought he would.  Congrats Coach Kruger!  Boomer!

Article Excerpt: These next seven games could go a long way towards determining this Oklahoma basketball team's chances of making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009.

Is this Oklahoma basketball team is going to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009? Right now we obviously do not know the answer to that question. However what we do know is this upcoming seven game stretch could go a long way towards determining the answer to that question.

While Oklahoma has compiled an impressive 3-0 start to conference play, their schedule to this point is really devoid of a "signature win." In spite of that perception however, the Sooners are sitting pretty at the moment with respect to their RPI ranking. As Rush The Court details, while Oklahoma's schedule may be lacking in 'big name appeal' it's actually played a significant role in their current standing.

Rankings aside, starting this Saturday when Oklahoma will travel to Manhattan for a game against Kansas State, the Sooners are about to enter what is easily the most difficult stretch of games on their schedule. A stretch in which Lon Kruger, his staff, the players, and we the fans will have a much better understanding of this team's postseason chances and/or future once concluded.

If two hours of a grueling Navy SEALs workout wasn't tough enough, the Oklahoma men's basketball team did it in 95 degree weather.

The Sooners also did a 90-minute classroom session with Navy SEALs Chief Special Warfare Operator Rob Stella that focused on mental toughness.

Pearl Jam's original namesake and OU great Mookie Blaylock is returning to OU for a reunion.

Article Except: The only drag during an otherwise tremendous Oklahoma Basketball Alumni Reunion last year was Mookie Blaylock wasn't part of it. Everybody else you'd want to see again showed. They played golf, ate barbecue, played basketball, ate some more, drank a little, swapped stories and shot a really cool picture to promote the 2011-12 season.

Thunder vs. OU Football Who Wins?

Thunder vs. OU Football Who Wins? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary:  It clearly depends on the season and the success of either team regarding who has the larger audience and current following.

The Thunder are making a strong run right now and rightly deserve the attention and support from Oklahoma fans.  It is good for the state of Oklahoma and all those that live in it.  In fact, if you listen in the distance you might even hear AC/DC's Thunderstruck playing.

But, come Fall, get ready for some Boomer Sooner and all that it entails.

See The Future Of Sooners' Basketball

See The Future Of Sooners' Basketball | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

If Sooner fans want a glimpse of what the program might look like in a year or two they should watch UNLV in this year's NCAA Tournament.

First-year Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger's former team was having a banner season before losing twice last week.

The Runnin' Rebels were ranked No. 11 nationally. ESPN's Joe Lunardi had UNLV as a No. 3 seed last week. UNLV will drop but should receive a decent seed and have a shot at a Sweet 16 season.

Only One Red River Rivalry? | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it
In this Tulsa World article, it is contemplated on whether the OU versus UT battles in other sports are note worthy, especially in comparision to the traditional football rivalry every October.

It really doesn't compare as the tradition, the spectacle with the Texas State Fair and the competitiveness of the two football squads easily overshadows any other sports battle between the two powers.

After Tough Loss To Iowa State, OU Looks For Positive NCAA Tournament Draw

After Tough Loss To Iowa State, OU Looks For Positive NCAA Tournament Draw | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

The Sooner's mens basketball team is hoping for a good draw later today as the selection committee makes it choices and fills the brackets.

The Iowa tate loss in the Big12 Tournament was especially frustrating for the for Coach Lon Kruger as the Sooners gave away a big lead late in the 2nd half and allowed the cyclones to make a 25-6 run to take the leas and the win.

Now, the Sooners fate is left in the hands of the selection committee after some tough losses late in the season and a bad draw could pit them against a bigger and more phydsical team of which the Sooners have struggled against this season.

The good thing is the selection wait is almost over.  Will the Sooners be a 8 or 9 seed or due to the struggles in the back half will they be a 10, 11 or 12 seed, which makes it a tougher run.

What do you think?

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Preview: Oklahoma Sooners

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Preview: Oklahoma Sooners | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it

Sooner4OU Commentary: It does look like a young team that will be building and struggling this season, but the future looks bright. Boomer!

Article Excerpt: By looking at their overall season record, last year looked like a mediocre one for the Oklahoma Sooners. Was it? Not really. The Sooners had a record of 10-2 after their non-conference schedule, but their Big 12 Conference schedule was not as good. They finished 5-13 in conference play during last season. In their last ten games of the regular season, Oklahoma went 2-8 with their only wins being against Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Because of their Big 12 Conference record last season, Oklahoma was picked seventh in the conference preseason polls. The Sooners were picked ninth last year in the preseason polls and finished eighth in the Big 12. They received 34 points in the preseason poll and did not earn a single first place vote.

OU Men's Basketball - Sooners Pick Up Commitment From Another 2013 JUCO, 6'10" 280 lbs Keshaun Hamilton.

Oklahoma Sooners men's basketball coach, Lon Kruger, continues to fill out his 2013 class and made another addition late Monday night. Following a visit this past weekend, 6'10" 280 pound JUCO big man Keshaun Hamilton has verbally committed to Oklahoma according to multiple reports.

There isn't exactly a ton of information on the interwebs regarding Hamilton, but what little there is seems to be very positive. He's a bit raw as a prospect, still learning how to use his massive frame to his advantage inside, but everyone who has seen him play as come away impressed.

Summer Basketball Update For Oklahoma Sooners - Better Days Are Coming

Summer Basketball Update For Oklahoma Sooners - Better Days Are Coming | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it
Lon Kruger isn’t used to losing. He reached a Final Four at Florida, an Elite Eight at Kansas State, and qualified for seven combined NCAA Tournaments at Illinois and UNLV. This man has been everywhere and won everywhere — well, except for that failed NBA experiment with the Atlanta Hawks — but his first season at Oklahoma did not fare so well. After making promising progress against a fairly weak non-conference slate, Kruger’s team fell flat in Big 12 play..

Coach Kruger's Efforts Pay Off For Oklahoma Sooner Basketball

Coach Kruger's Efforts Pay Off For Oklahoma Sooner Basketball | Sooner4OU | Scoop.it
It is no secret that fan support was severely lacking in the 2011-2012 season of what has become Oklahoma Sooner Basketball. While the team performed well early on, the fan base never reciprocated by attending games. Ploys have been thrown out there as an attempt to bring in students. Free food always does the trick with college kids but is unable to hold the crowd once the food disappears. There is some good news heading into the 2012-2013 season that could make this Sooner team proud to put on the jersey and represent a university with much thanks going to none other than Kruger himself.

Oklahoma junior forward Romero Osby knows what it is like to be on a team that gets on a tear to end the season and earns an NCAA Tournament berth by winning its conference tournament.

Osby played 12.6 minutes per game, averaging 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds for a Bulldog squad that finished 23-13 overall that season. He transferred to OU after his sophomore season.
