Coca-Cola extends loyalty rewards to social media actions - Mobile Marketer - Strategy

Coca-Cola extends loyalty rewards to social media actions - Mobile Marketer - Strategy | Coca-Cola as a Company and Brand | Scoop.it

NEW YORK – A Coca-Cola executive at the Mobile Marketing Association’s SM2 conference said the company is releasing a new platform today that will integrate social media action into the company's rewards program.

In the “Create Buzz: Find your Brand’s Voice in Mobile: Success Strategies to Stay Ahead of the Competition” session, the executive went through Coca-Cola’s mobile strategy and the company’s goals looking forward. In addition to mentioning the new social platform, she also discussed the company's goals of consolidating all of its applications into one container app.

"A lot of the work I’ve been doing is through the My Coke Rewards loyalty program," said Zoe Glade, senior digital marketing strategist of digital platforms at Coca-Cola, Atlanta. "We’re launching a new platform, a beta, Thursday, so the idea is that we’ve gone [away] from this very transactional component.

Coke moves from a transactional based loyalty program to one based on social interactions via #mobile apps. Is this the beginning of a trend for #brands?

Eric_Determined / Eric Silverstein's curator insight, September 26, 2013 1:52 PM

CocaCola realized they needed to simplify their mobile reach, and avoid confusion with customers:

"If consumers enter the App store, there are dozens of apps fromCoca-Cola brands. Yet, the company noticed that first-time log-ins were 20 percent higher than multiple logins, showing that the company could do better at providing relevant and engaging material within the apps.

Ms. Glade also admitted that the reviews for the company’s apps are not stellar right now. She said that one of the key takeaways for her department is that they need to listen to consumers to create a better app experience."

The last sentence above is key, the need to engage and listen to customers, in order to build a better relationship, product, service, etc...

I think that Coca Cola new social platform is a great idea. Coming fom the world of Public Relations, the idea of having all you inormation upfront and enabling consumers to be able to post comments and view poducts in real time is great. This is the direction our world is heading in and i think its fantastic that Cola is going to integrate social media in their platform.
