What happens after companies jettison traditional year-end evaluations?

Most corporate performance-management systems don’t work today, because they are rooted in models for specializing and continually optimizing discrete work tasks. These models date back more than a century, to Frederick W. Taylor. Over the next 100 years, performance-management systems evolved but did not change fundamentally. A measure like the number of pins produced in a single day could become a more sophisticated one, such as a balanced scorecard of key performance indicators (KPIs) that link back to overarching company goals.

Managers and staff alike too often view performance management as time consuming, excessively subjective, demotivating, and ultimately unhelpful. In these cases, it does little to improve the performance of employees. It may even undermine their performance as they struggle with ratings, worry about compensation, and try to make sense of performance feedback !

I don’t think any CEO (or, for that matter, any layperson) would disagree with me if I said that being trusted is a powerful asset for a business. It makes sense that if you are in business, you would want your customers, employees, shareholders, the regulators, the man on the street and media to trust you, rather than the other way around.

Mais où est donc passée la septième compagnie, On a retrouvé la septième compagnie, La septième compagnie au clair du Lune : cette trilogie cinématographique a marqué les esprits de plusieurs générations après avoir rempli les salles obscures dans les années 70 (dix millions d’entrées cumulées). L’intérêt ne s’atténue pas et les chiffres d’audience restent à des niveaux élevés à chaque rediffusion.

Depuis que le management existe, la question de la mesure de la performance managériale (et des indicateurs permettant cette mesure) se pose. Mesurer suppose qu’il existe une norme. Existe-t-il des normes de comportements managériaux ? Peut-on a priori définir ce que devrait être un bon manager ?

"Si manager est un art, peut-on mesurer la valeur d’une œuvre ou ne peut-on que l’apprécier ?" Et l'appréciation passe d'abord par une auto-évaluation :-)

Over the course of a regular day, everyone’s mental resources get taxed, research has consistently shown. Thus, as the day wears on, whether you like it or not, you become increasingly fatigued and consequently more likely to underperform on work tasks. Cognitive fatigue in a very common condition that results from sustained engagement that taxes your mental resources. This seems obvious, right? Yet the vast majority of people often overlook cognitive fatigue, despite the fact that it influences their choices and behaviors in profound ways !
