Working insanely long hours is doing you more harm than good. It's time to distance yourself from the cult of overwork--here's how.

The last one is critical.  I started a reverse calendar approach a few year's ago based on a friend's suggestion.  I consider my calendar 100% booked for my time, projects, etc. and appointments (for example) only go onto it if they drive one of those priorities forward or are of equal/greater importance.  It lead to a HUGE boost in productivity, and mysteriously nothing feel through the cracks (i.e. if not important enough, probably didn't need the attention in the first place).

A few nice simple reminders. Also, not all but many people who battle with negativity do so because they don't feel heard or understood. This is where some coaching skills can really come into use -- helping them feel listened to withOUT saying you agree with what they are saying or coming across like you are commiserating.

Feedback, from your manager, is a key driver of employee engagement.  In recent conversations with Fortune 1000 companies, most leaders and HR departments say that building leadership capacity (i.e. coaching and providing feedback to employees) is an area that they need to improve.  Most leaders have never received more than a brief workshop on providing effective feedback; and yet it's a critical leverage point for engagement and thus individual & organizational performance.
