So…where’s the leadership lesson?
The American viewing audience whose votes determine who gets to move on and who gets to go home each week, chose to retain Candace and Mark this long. This was a classic case of preference over performance. And we see it happen at all of our clients.
Executives will often do what America did throughout this last season. They will give preferential treatment to those people in the organization they like, who are like them, who believe what they believe and see what they see – often putting them in positions where they will struggle, and those around them will struggle to support and help them. Leaders tend to hold them there longer than they should. All the while, the organization suffers and others start to lose faith.
