(From the article): New research from the UCLA Laboratory of Neuro Imaging suggests that people who meditate show more gray matter in certain regions of the brain, show stronger connections between brain regions and show less age-related brain atrophy. In other words, meditation might make your brain bigger, faster, and "younger". As lead researcher Eileen Luders explains, "it appears to be a powerful mental exercise with the potential to change the physical structure of the brain."

Leadership does not happen in places where fear is present. Many organizations and their leaders use fear to 'motivate' people. That is not possible.

What Questions Did You Ask Today?

"The average five-year-old asks 65 questions per day, most of them starting with "why." The average 44-year-old manager only asks six questions per day; most of them starting with "when," "where," or "how much."

The number of questions we ask per day doesn't increase until retirement. Why retirement? Because that's when we start asking, "Where are my keys?" and "Why did I walk into this room?"

In this animated three-minute video, Chic Thompson the author of What a Great Idea!, will help you "jump start" your question asking ability."

FOG - How To Use Emotional Intelligence: Free Poster - Six Seconds | Coaching Leaders | Scoop.it

At Six Seconds, we’ve developed a 3-step process to put emotional intelligence into action. Recently, I wrote about stepping through fear, and described the steps as FOG. Want to make an emotionally intelligent choice?

FOG:
F: Feelings. What’s going on inside?
O: Options. How could I respond?
G: Goals. Why might I move forward?

The same steps apply when solving a problem between people…

MOC the Week: Leadership Lollipop Moments

MOC the Week: Leadership Lollipop Moments | Coaching Leaders | Scoop.it

When did we make leadership such a big thing? We have built it up to be something so extraordinary, that it can often seem out of reach for many of us.

As part of a leadership programme or when I am coaching, I will often ask for examples of leaders. The usual responses include Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King and Ghandi.

Although I may get examples of past managers that people have worked with, I can't think of one example when someone has replied "me!"

Why is this? Why do we have difficulty in considering ourselves as leaders?
