Thinking critically and strategically doesn't come natural to most people.  The good news is that it can be taught and learned by willing students.  The seminar version of this type of thinking is typified by the Socratic approach, which consists of breaking down arguments through verbal parry, including challenging assumptions buttressing an argument.  This piece offers 3 suggestions and gives examples how one might implement this approach.
