Meet Generation Z -- Shaped by the 2000s, those young people entering the adult world today are thinking about their economic future more like children of the 1930s than their immediate forerunners, those children of the ’90s. But like Gen Yers, Gen Zers are totally plugged in, to each other as well as an infinite array of answers to any question at any time.

Despite the collective wisdom of centuries on this topic, confidence in our leaders is low and continues to decline. In a 2012 survey by the National Leadership Index (NLI), released by the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School and Merriman River Group,

77% of respondents said the United States now has a crisis in leadership and confidence levels have fallen to the lowest levels in recent times.

Leadership Development

Warden Associates's curator insight, December 31, 2013 1:39 PM

From article...

"...leadership talent — the ability to build and maintain high-performing teams, and to inspire followers to set aside their selfish agendas to work for the common interest of the group"

"Good leaders need to become masters of themselves before they can be masters of anything else."

I could not agree more. Leadership Development is not simply about running individuals through training courses to impart knowledge on specific competency areas. First and foremost, leaders seeking to improve their ability to lead must know themselves and their style of leading. Then they can plot a course to furthering their leadership talent.

Zig Ziglar said, “A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.”

This quote struck a cord in me today.  So many years ago a leader saw something in me that I had not seen in myself.  That person believed in me until I believed in me.

I am sure each of us has stories of people who changed the course of our lives...the person or combination of people who believed in us, showed us the way, and gave us their time, knowledge, and care to help us get to where we want to be.

Are you making the difference with your team?  Do you believe and see their potential?

Thank you to all those leaders who give so much of themselves to their teams...I am so grateful!!!

The following parable highlights five things great leaders should always remember.

I think knowing when to shut up is useful in any type of coaching. Silence often gives the client more time to reflect and collect their thoughts, and in this example with Chinese, participate in the discussion.
