3 Edtech Tools You Can Use To Gamify Your Classroom

3 Edtech Tools You Can Use To Gamify Your Classroom | Coach Jeffery's: Teaching with Technology | Scoop.it
Gamification is one of the buzzwords in education right now, and for a good reason: Gamification is empowering, exciting, and under the right circumstances can be the disruptive innovator many teachers desperately need in order to change the dynamics between knowledge and the learner. As schools are coming to the end of the year in my part of the world, many of us will begin to think about changes we might make next year in our classroom...and chances are for some that will include the concept of gamification.

This post from Edudemic provides descriptions of three edtech tools that may help you in this process.

* Socrative is a free program that allows you to create questions and students may answer using a wide variety of platforms.

* Kahoot is also a response system, but is designed gaming mechanics to provide motivation and engagement. There are many unique features to this tool and it worth checking out their website at https://getkahoot.com/

* FlipQuiz is similar to Jeopardy. It "makes it easy to design game-show style activities in the classroom that transform learning into an engaging and entertaining experience."

The post includes an introductory video for each tool.

6 Second Learning with Vine: 22+ Ideas & Resources

6 Second Learning with Vine: 22+ Ideas & Resources | Coach Jeffery's: Teaching with Technology | Scoop.it

"Most of our students love learning and creating...I was excited to discover the creativity and imagination taking place on Vine, a social network with over 40 million people creating and sharing 6 second videos. We can use this popular free mobile app and social network to engage our students and get them to connect with our subject matter. "

What could your students create in 6 seconds with Vine? More than you might think. This post by Shelly Terrell shares over 22 ideas to help get your students creating Vines as well as information that is key to being successful. One example...did you know that students must be over 17 to have a Vine account? This means that most teachers would have to create a classroom account (and probably check your Acceptable Use Policy and get parents permission). The good news is that you can create an account that would only allow parents and students from your classroom to view the Vines.

Many additional resources are shared within the post including a recorded webinar by Turrell and also download her slides.

All the iPad apps you'll ever need. Aligned to Blooms Taxonomy and SAMR

Beth Dichter's curator insight, June 4, 8:34 PM

Do you use iPads in your school? Do you work with Bloom's Taxonomy and/or SAMR? Are you interested in seeing how you might combine Bloom's and SAMR using specific apps? If so, click through to this post.

The post takes apps and organizes in three categories:

* Consumption - which includes Knowledge and Analysis (split into Activity and Gamification)

* Collaboration - which includes Application and Synthesis (split into Assessment and Cloud Storage)

* Creation - which includes Comprehension and Evaluate (split into Multimedia & Design and Multimedia Texts)

Then read on and see how you might take these same areas and apply them to SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition).

This is worth a look even if you do not have iPads. The ideas of placing work into the three Cs of Consumption, Collaboration and Creation may be applied to work that students do, with or without technology.
