The U.S. government isn't all that concerned about violent video games anymore - Digital Trends

The U.S. government isn't all that concerned about violent video games anymore - Digital Trends | CLOVER ENTERPRISES ''THE ENTERTAINMENT OF CHOICE'' | Scoop.it
Mark DeLoura, a senior advisor to the Obama White House for two years, says that the government has changed its thinking about video games in recent years

Yushi Zhao's curator insight, August 24, 2015 7:32 PM

This article is about the United State government that is not too concerned about violent video games anymore. Senator Joe Lieberman led a charge on a newly release game name “Moral Kombat”, because this game contains extreme graphic content; however, it is only rate age appropriateness. The Supreme Court states that the video games are protected under the first amendment as artistic expressions. One of the senior advisors for digital media, Mark Deloura, states that:” the White House has really changed its focus from potential negative impacts of video games to the public good they can serve.”
I think that when Moral Combat was released as age appropriateness a couple years ago was a mistake. It should be at lease rated as parental guidance 17, (PG 17). On the account of, the characters in this game have special skills name fatalities that can instantly kill the opponent in the most gruesome way. Some of the fatalities included: skinning, burning, decapitating, or penetrating the opponent, etc. Children are like sponges, they observe and learn through everything they see, feel, or touch. Thus, from all the graphic contents from the video game, it may be extremely traumatizing to a little kid and it might change their whole mindset at a young age. Therefore, it might lead to future crime convictions. In the article, it also mentioned about the incident at Sandy Hook Elementary, a 20 year old shooter name Adam Lanza shot his mother in the face; later on, he showed up at the elementary school, and begins a massacre. Nobody knows he’s real intention of the shooting; it might be under the influence of the gaming. Thus, the government should be more restrict on setting the age-appropriateness before releasing a game.
