Schemas in Gmail — Google Developers

Schemas in Gmail — Google Developers | Cloud Central | Scoop.it

Increase user engagement with interactions in emails, Google Search, and Google Now, by adding markup to emails.

Peter Azzopardi's insight:

Developers Corner:

Email is an important part of how we get things done -- from planning an event with friends to organizing a trip to Paris. So much information is contained inside emails -- like the details of a dinner party or travel itinerary -- and so many emails require action -- like RSVP, or flight checkin.

By adding schema.org markup to the emails you send your users, you can make that information available across their Google experience, and make it easy for users to take quick action. Gmail, Google Search and Google Now all already use this structured data.

Local companies RightScale and Eucalyptus outline the benefits, including the ability to avert 'success disasters' for businesses.

“Exactly at the moment you are succeeding and throngs of people are using your service, it becomes slow and inoperable. That’s the irony, and that’s the terrible side of it,” he said. “So what needs to happen is you need to have the software architecture and hardware to expand resources really quickly so you can keep serving customers.”

Oh Google. Of course email users expect privacy -- you promised it to them

Oh Google. Of course email users expect privacy -- you promised it to them | Cloud Central | Scoop.it
The company has claimed in a legal document that Gmail users and their correspondents have “no legitimate expectation of privacy”. Only that’s not quite how Google sells its services.
Peter Azzopardi's insight:

To be fair to Google, advertising is their livelihood and scanning our emails for leading words is nowhere as intrusive as what the NSA did with their PRISM programme. Nonetheless, one should throw caution to the wind. If the scanning criteria had to be widened, I would be the first to show apprehension.

The Cloud concept depends on trust. Take trust out of the formula and cloud will fail. It's like putting money in a bank, you are meant to sleep well once you deposit your hard earned cash there. The same goes for storage and other cloud services.

The industry finds itself at a crossroad. It is up to the big players, the ones that are already factoring in their profits. Either they find a way to put every users' head at rest or face many years of uncertainty.

Cloud computing: Now & beyond 2013 - I - CXOtoday.com | Cloud Central | Scoop.it
Undoubtedly, cloud computing can be counted amongst the most hyped technologies ever. And the last 5 years bear witness to this fact. In the last half decade, every IT vendor or analyst has prophesied how this technology will change the way we perceive and consume technology. However, the irony is that we were users of cloud even before we were made aware of the tag. Services like Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Skype etc. were all delivered via cloud. Even today, cloud continues to remain hyped, according to Gartner’s 2012 Hype Cycle Report, with a probability of achieving a plateau of productivity in 2 to 5 years. So has all this hype helped in the adoption of the cloud? In this first of a two part article, let’s take a look how businesses perceived and adopted cloud in 2012.
