Peter Azzopardi's insight:

The principle idea behind BYOD is sound. True that security would need to be propped up if BYOD was to be adopted. But once it is set-up it would bring enormous flexibility.

The current NSA scandal raises a ton of questions -- and gives enterprises another excuse to resist the cloud
Peter Azzopardi's insight:

Confidence in the cloud's security has always been questionable. The NSA's actions will certainly not have strenghtened the notion that your data is safe and private only to yourself.

Twitter Traffic, How to Double Your Traffic to Your Content With Twitter | Cloud Central | Scoop.it
Social Media Marketing podcast 44: In this episode Kim Garst shares how to use Twitter to promote your content and offers, and drive more traffic to your blog.
Peter Azzopardi's insight:

Of all the social networks, Twitter is by far the one I find most challenging. The math itself is mind boggling. Before, I tried building followers, it wasn't all that difficult reading the tweets. Today I am bombarded with over 30,000 tweets a day and there is simply no way to follow them. Doubling my followers would be .... great, but if everyone is like me than no one is reading anything!. I think I need a better management plan.

Business Cloud Computing: Privacy Is Just As Important As Security

Business Cloud Computing: Privacy Is Just As Important As Security | Cloud Central | Scoop.it
Similar to their IT security due diligence, companies need to ask questions about the privacy of their data before they enter into a cloud vendor relationship.
Peter Azzopardi's insight:

Personally I believe that the element of mistrust also exists within the confines of an organisation. IT is normally able to do whatever it wished. Privacy is not all that much better.

But of course when using the cloud the ones that can eavesdrop are faceless, thus making them scarier.

Encryption at a SaaS level should not be all that difficult and might be the solution.

Twitter and Sonic.net took top scores in a new Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF) report rating tech companies' stewardship of users' personal data and their willingness to hand over data to the government. The two companies got high marks on each of the EFF's six privacy best practices categories, which include things like "require a warrant for content," "tell users about government data demands," and "publish transparency reports."

On the other end of the scale were Verizon, AT&T and Apple. Verizon failed to get a star in even one category, while AT&T and Apple earned just one apiece.

AWS is a good bundle but what is at stake here is that it involves replacing old and trusted procedures. On the other hand, businesses that have been around for a long time have learnt to rely on the guidance of their IT department.
