..... Let me tell you that 92 per cent of cloud is on-premise (private cloud), while the public cloud market is growing faster. Gartner forecasts that by 2020 on-premise will be 77 per cent. You can move workloads to Amazon, but can you move it back to your data centre? While the public cloud market may attract attention, all the action is in the private and hybrid cloud. Amazon hasn’t been able to crack the code for enterprise.

In order to protect proprietary Boeing data the company uses a process called "shred and scatter." Using software supported by a New Zealand firm, Greenbot, Boeing takes the data it plans to put in the cloud and breaks it up into the equivalent of what Nelson called puzzle pieces.

69% of enterprises who have separate budgets for cloud computing are predicting spending increases this year and into 2014.

Internal Private Cloud (35%), Cloud Provider Assessments/Strategy Planning (33%), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) (31%) and Software-as-a-Service (30%) are the top four cloud computing-related projects enterprises are working on right now.  Cloud Provider Assessments/Strategy Planning have seen the largest increase, attributable to more enterprises looking to better support strategic plans with more agile, efficient IT organizations.
