Speaking as a consumer and very heavy Dropbox user, the day that they launched photo import, I stopped using iPhoto on my Mac. I now keep all my photos synced with Dropbox. I run Dropbox on my iPad and iPhone, and I just upload my photos from the Dropbox folder to various social networks. However, most social network apps - Facebook, Google+ - are now offering automatic upload as well.

You can't put a layer on something and call it new, as we learned in the OS wars of old. Are we doomed to repeat the battles of the past?

Very interesting article and certainly worth a read. But it is rather too early to suggest that the players on this list will dominate their respective markets. There is a lot of money involved and those with deepest pockets tend to prevail in the end. Of course, only time will tell.
