"At its most basic level, Google Docs lets you create, edit and share documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms and drawings. You can even upload Microsoft Office files directly into Docs, or downloads Docs files in Microsoft Office formats. But what else can it do? The thing with cloud-based applications such as Google Docs, is they can be continuously updated – sometimes updates are released without you even knowing about it, or there may simply be additional functionality that you never knew existed since you first dismissed Docs back in 2007."

Users use many differnet services on the web to handle their day to day tasks, such as sharing images, editing documents and listening to music. They expect their applications to be connected and to work together seamlessly. It is impossible for developers to anticipate every new service and to intergrate with every existing external service that their users prefer and thus they must choose to integrate with a few select API's at great expense to the developer. Web Intents solves this. Web Intents is a framework for client-side service discovery and inter-application communication. Services register their intention to be able to handle an action on the user's behalf. Applications request to start an Action of a certain verb (share, edit, view, pick etc) and the system will find the appropriate Services for the user to use based on the user's preference. Web Intents puts the user in control of service integrations and makes the developers life simple.

His brainchild is SproutCore, a JavaScript library whose goal is to accelerate HTML5 apps on multiple platforms, including tablets, so their execution speed approaches that of native apps. Charles Jolley began work on SproutCore at Apple, and was a key architect for Apple’s vision of HTML5: a standards-driven effort that could yet be maneuvered to showcase Apple’s strengths.

"These writers are really missing something crucial. Unlike, every other competitor in the social networking space, G+ has a unique advantage: google.com, youtube.com, blogger.com, and gmail.com. These four domains are some of the most trafficked in the world. Everyday, they’re accessed by roughly 80% of all Internet users." via @petahopkins

Computational photography, a subdiscipline of computer graphics, conjures up images rather than simply capturing them. More computer animation than pinhole camera, in other words, though using real light refracted through a lens rather than the virtual sort. The basic premise is to use multiple exposures, and even multiple lenses, to capture information from which photographs may be derived. These data contain a raft of potential pictures which software then converts into what, at first blush, looks like a conventional photo.
