Will Disruptive Cloud Computing Kill Enterprise Resource Planning? | L'Univers du Cloud Computing dans le Monde et Ailleurs | Scoop.it

It’s a just about a cliché at this stage to note that cloud computing has been one of the big technology disruptors in recent years. However, according to Gartner, the best — or worst, depending on your perspective — has yet to come. It seems Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications are doomed to legacy status or even the trash bin.

With the increasing developments in data transference, cloud storage and hybrid-cloud storage is increasing in validity, efficiency and effectiveness. It is important for organisations and individuals to understand the impact of utilising cloud storage - questions of data security are raised, especially in light of recent infamous scandal of cloud storage involving Apple.

3rd most important technology: Data/Cloud
The "cloud" is an internet based storage base that is used to process and store data collected by user. It is a cheaper alternative to physical storage and might soon takeover it all together. It does currently have some kinks that should be seen sorted in the next few years leaving it almost flawless.

Via Peter Azzopardi

Peter Azzopardi's curator insight, January 28, 2014 5:35 PM

Very well put! "Most security problems in the public cloudare not down to technical failings, but are instead a result of poor organisational practice. Whilst this cloud does present security challenges, many of these are also common to private clouds. The added benefit of a service provider is they tend to have in-house cloud-focused security expertise, whereas enterprises in general do not."

Christian Verstraete's curator insight, February 4, 2014 3:11 AM

Sorry but disagree. The main issue in public cloud, lack of transparency. And whether we like it or not, the cloud is global but the law is local. Public cloud providers don't want to recognize that and build the appropriate, enterprise grade T&C's, SLA's and support to attract enterprises. So the world will behybrid, a mix of public, managed and private. For each workload a decision will have to be taken. Oh, and don't forget the traditional environment.
