Hoisington On The End Of The Fed's (Mythical) "Wealth Effect" | Zero Hedge

Hoisington On The End Of The Fed's (Mythical) "Wealth Effect" | Zero Hedge | Clean Energy - Crowdfunding - New Technology | Scoop.it
As we noted earlier, The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has continuously been overly optimistic regarding its expectations for economic growth in the United States. A major reason for the FOMC’s overly optimistic forecast for economic growth and its incorrect view of the effectiveness of quantitative easing is the reliance on the so-called 'wealth effect'. However, "There may not be a wealth effect at all. If there is a wealth effect, it is very difficult to pin down..." Since the FOMC began quantitative easing in 2009, its balance sheet has increased more than $3 trillion. This increase may have boosted wealth, but the U.S. economy received no meaningful benefit. Furthermore, the FOMC has no idea what the ultimate outcome of such an increase will be or what a return to a ‘normal’ balance sheet might entail. Given all of this, we do not see any evidence for economic growth as robust at the FOMC predicts. Without a wealth effect, the stock market is not the “key player” in the economy, and no “virtuous circle” runs through the stock market.
Lars Boelen's insight:

The policy of all the major central banks has been, for over  a decade, to hunt for the "Wealth Effect". The idea is that if stock prices and housing prices are high people feel rich and spend more, hence fueling the Economy. Trillions have been spent to prop up stock prices.

and now for a huge "AHUM" : that whole "Wealth Effect" does not exist, the goals of the monetary policy are a fraud. very good reading this!!

Lars Boelen's insight:

Not really "new technology" or  from a "startup" but the market is big enough for me to give HP the benefit of the doubt : if, in June,  they come with the correct printer and raw materials supply chain to use in the printers they may actually have a good chance of taking a huge chunk of the new 3D-printer market .

Lars Boelen's insight:

Funny isn't it? Europe's hope on higher prices for the local PV-industry has actually backfired : the Chinese are now getting BETTER prices than their European competitors. Why?  The Chinese are the only parties large enough  with guaranteed quality to participate in large PV-projects. The Europeans beg for  the crumbs and need to ask the lowest prices to get anything.

India Wants To Switch 26 Million Water Pumps To Solar Power Instead Of Diesel

India Wants To Switch 26 Million Water Pumps To Solar Power Instead Of Diesel | Clean Energy - Crowdfunding - New Technology | Scoop.it
It's indicative of a larger trend toward -- and need for --distributed solar generation for the world's poor. (Wow. Scale is starting.
Lars Boelen's insight:

Interesting to read how a fossil technology (diesel pumps) is being replaced by an electrical one, and in the process bypasses a potential bottleneck : lack of electrical grid , by switching directly to solar. This may have a far higher impact than just the ditching of diesel: communities become self sufficient in their power needs!

Great development methinks!

The Morning Download: Artificial Intelligence Coming to the Workplace

The Morning Download: Artificial Intelligence Coming to the Workplace | Clean Energy - Crowdfunding - New Technology | Scoop.it
Good morning. Rather than a Terminator-type future in which humans battle machines, Google Inc.'s Ray Kurzweil envisions a more harmonious future in which people and machines coexist peacefully. They may even become our newest colleagues. A talk by Mr. Kurzweil at the CIO Network conference spurred conversation among attendees about the near future, when the new work buddy will be able to defeat you in chess in 0.7 seconds. CIOs also gave this future serious consideration. “I think there is no doubt we will see an increasing amount of AI in the workplace, whether it is avatars for training or simply sophisticated AI used for automation and efficiency in a variety of business settings,” Rick Roy, CIO at CUNA Mutual Group, tells CIO Journal.
Lars Boelen's insight:

Artificial intelligence is entering the workplace! Google wants to become big in this, but startups like Bstriker.com are into this market as well.
