Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom

Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom | classroom tools | Scoop.it

For a long time now I have been looking for a tool that enables instant polling in the classroom or in the lecture room. I specifically wanted something that; doesn't require registration (especially from the people I'm polling), updates very quickly, works on any platform from computers to mobile devices

It looks like I have finally found what I've been looking for and best of all it's free. The tool that I have found is Mentimeter and it does all of the above.

I've Been Using Evernote All Wrong. Here's Why It's Actually Amazing! | classroom tools | Scoop.it

For years, I kept hearing how awesome Evernote was: how it could store everything you possibly needed, make it available everywhere, and how scores of people couldn't live without it. I tried it multiple times, and never saw the appeal until now.

Teaching Critical Thinking Skills Through Project Based Learning - The Partnership for 21st Century Skills | classroom tools | Scoop.it
DRIVING QUESTION: Does Project Based Learning Teach Critical Thinking?

Critical thinking is a foundational skill for 21st century success, a reality recognized by P21 adherents and educators everywhere. But how do we help students learn to do it? The 33 Digital Skills Every 21st Century Teacher should Have

The 33 Digital Skills Every 21st Century Teacher should Have | classroom tools | Scoop.it

Every single teacher is concerned about his/ her teaching practices and the skills involved in this process. How many times have you wondered about a better way to teach the same lesson you have delivered to an eariler class? How often have you used technology to engage your students and improve their learning ? These are some recurring questions we keep regurgitating each time our teaching skills are put to the test.

Flipping Bloom’s Taxonomy | Powerful Learning Practice

Flipping Bloom’s Taxonomy | Powerful Learning Practice | classroom tools | Scoop.it

Many teachers in many classrooms spend the majority of their time in the basement of the taxonomy, never really addressing or developing the higher order thinking skills that kids need to develop. We end up with rote and boring classrooms. Rote and boring curriculum. Much of today’s standardized testing rigorously tests the basement, further anchoring the focus of learning at the bottom steps, which is not beneficial for our students.

One of my professional goals is to regularly visit classrooms and capture learning stories. I love talking to students and teachers who are engaging with technology in meaningful ways. One such story I captured a few months ago involved blogging in a grade 3 classroom. Jens, the teacher for this class, contacted me via email to describe the journey he’s been on with his kids:

The Flip: End of a Love Affair

A little over a year ago I wrote a postabout the flipped classroom, why I loved it. When I recently re-read the post, I didn’t disagree with anything I’d said. Yet my brief love affair with the flip has ended. It simply didn’t produce the tranformative learning experience I knew I wanted for my students .
