Create and monitor engaging flipped learning

Create and monitor engaging flipped learning | Class Tech | Scoop.it

One other product I have been getting excited about is Verso. This platform is not quite a learning management system, and has built in interactivity. I like it because it is crazy easy to use. It is sort of the anti-LMS way to have students engage with your content.

Very interesting. Could be used in class or out to monitor participation    and quality of responses, as well as whether they are correct. The fact that others will view the responses may encourage higher quality responses. Thx, Nik Peachey

This app has been a plaything of mine for the last couple of weeks, and I am going to play over the holidays to see how it works. It is very easy to use: upload a video, write some notes/activities and there is the lesson. Seems a simple way to make flipped content for those starting to flip.

10 good ways to integrate Mobile Phones in class

10 good ways to integrate Mobile Phones in class | Class Tech | Scoop.it

When it comes to integrating mobile phones in learning , many teachers show a deep-seated concern over it. But let's face it students as early as primary grades have phones and have already developed key skills to use them. Phones and other digital media are part and parcel of their lives if not an important part of it. So instead of banning them from using the digital media they are already familiar with, it would be better to look into ways to embrace these media and leverage its power to enhance students learning. In this regard, the visual below outlines 10 useful examples of how you can integrate phones in classroom learning. Have a look and as always share with us what you think of it.

Maker Education and Experiential Education - User Generated Education

Maker Education and Experiential Education - User Generated Education | Class Tech | Scoop.it

"As those who follow me on Twitter and via this blog know, I am an advocate of the Maker Educationmovement.  The reason, as I’ve mentioned, is that I come from a background in Experiential Education.  Many of underlying principles and learning activities related to maker education fit nicely into the tenets and principles related to experiential education.  Since this discipline-learning philosophy has been around a lot longer than the more formalized, current maker education movement, those attempting to move maker education into more traditional educational settings might draw from the writings and literature of experiential education to help explain and contextualized maker education."

Spell Up. Speak to play and build up your English.

Spell Up. Speak to play and build up your English. | Class Tech | Scoop.it

This is a great new game from Google which helps students develop their vocabulary through spelling and pronunciation. Using Chrome, students can actually speak to the computer and listen to the pronunciation of the words as they build a word tower. They can even listen to a speaking dictionary telling them what the words mean. This should get your students working autonomously to develop their own vocabulary and if they sign in they can track and share their results.

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers | Class Tech | Scoop.it

With the thousands of educational apps vying for the attention of busy teachers, it can be hard to sift for the gold. Michelle Luhtala, a savvy librarian from New Canaan High School in Connecticut has crowd-sourced the best, most extensive list of appsvoted on by educators around the country.

“I wanted to make sure we had some flexibility because there’s no one app that’s better than all the others,” Luhtala said. Some apps are best for younger students, others are more complicated, better suited for high school students. Many apps do one thing really well, but aren’t great at everything. Still others are bought, redesigned or just disappear — so it’s always good to know about an array of tools to suit the need at hand.

As schools are coming to the end of the year in my part of the world, many of us will begin to think about changes we might make next year in our classroom...and chances are for some that will include the concept of gamification.

This post from Edudemic provides descriptions of three edtech tools that may help you in this process.

* Socrative is a free program that allows you to create questions and students may answer using a wide variety of platforms.

* Kahoot is also a response system, but is designed gaming mechanics to provide motivation and engagement. There are many unique features to this tool and it worth checking out their website at https://getkahoot.com/

* FlipQuiz is similar to Jeopardy. It "makes it easy to design game-show style activities in the classroom that transform learning into an engaging and entertaining experience."

The post includes an introductory video for each tool.
