Approaches to process writing ~ British Council and BBC

Approaches to process writing ~ British Council and BBC | Class Resources | Scoop.it

"It is a myth that all it takes to write is to sit down in front of a blank page, to begin at the beginning and write through to the end, with no planning, break, editing, or changes in between. And yet, this is sometimes what we ask our students to do. Good writers plan and revise, rearrange and delete text, re-reading and producing multiple drafts before they produce their finished document. This is what a process writing approach is about."

Teacher preparation is an ongoing and life-long process. Without this understanding, we are at best treading water, more likely drowning, and losing ground. We should have been preparing teachers for deep learning a long time ago.

Thanks for this, muchas gracias Gust MEES
Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, June 10, 10:14 AM

There are three parts to becoming a teacher: qualification, socialization, and subjectation. The process in the article speaks about the first one and to much lesser extent to the second, but the three are overlapping and need each other. Yes, we become qualified to teach, we are socialized to teach, but do we ever consider ourselves teachers?

Prompts are handy tools.  Students should learn how to write from prompts. However,  never slam the door shut on a student generated topic. Instead encourage students to generate their own prompts whenever they can.
