The reports of my dearth of respect for reason and philosophy have been greatly exaggerated.

Haidt co-runs www.CivilPolitics.org, which defines civility as “the ability to disagree with others while respecting their sincerity and decency.” Civility, they believe, is best fostered by indirect methods (changing contexts, payoffs and institutions) rather than by direct methods (pleading with people to be more civil, or asking people to sign civility pledges).
