If you are a journalist and you are using Twitter to pick and share relevant news for your following, you may want to check out these straightforward suggestions on how to best manage your news curation process.

The Twitter blog team has analyzed back in September of last year, thousands of tweets from over 150 news companies and individual reporters, to distill which are the most important traits of good news curation.

In essence:

  • Tweet content related to your beat; live-tweet

  • Use hashtags for context and @cite your sources

  • Share what you're reading with your Twitter followers

  • Use the Retweet button to curate

To the point. Useful. 8/10

Study Reveals that Twitter users often Retweet without reading or clicking links

Study Reveals that Twitter users often Retweet without reading or clicking links | ciberpocket | Scoop.it
If you’ve been on Twitter long enough and use the social platform to share content from your blog or website, and have built a certain level of authority and expertise, after a while you’ll begin to notice automated sharing and retweets of your stuff, often from the same sources. This can be great for traffic and awareness, but it’s a pretty hollow stamp of approval, as your content has obviously been passed on blind.

And if the poster uses the command, "Retweet" rather than "RT", the retweet rate increases twelve-fold...! Remember, less than 100 chars means +17% engagement, too. More than 2 +hashtags reduces this again by 17%!

The Social Sickness - INFOGRAPHIC

The Social Sickness - INFOGRAPHIC | ciberpocket | Scoop.it

The Internet has become the building block of information creation and storage in the modern age. It’s a place where we can create websites, publications, blogs, and micro-blogs; then transfer that knowledge to people across the globe.

Social media has become one of the greatest harnessers of this technology and provides us with a multitude of platforms in which to engage and share content. With all of this social media bliss distracting us, sickness has also come knocking.
We have surrendered to the temptation to check our phones every two minutes to see how many likes our Instagram photos have, how many retweets our Twitter account got, and who commented on our Facebook posts...
The characters portrayed in this infographic bring us face-to-face with these tendencies, and shed insight into the types of personalties affected. Whether you’re an unabashed alert-lover, verb creator, or someone who would rather use the “like” button than ever fully engage with your friends ever again — there’s a 'social media sickness' for you.
