Teens Search Faith Online | The Digital Sanctuary | Church and Technology | Scoop.it

Excerpt from the Digital Sanctuary on the Barna Group study regarding the Mosaics and faith online:

  • "One out of every four teenagers (26%) had learned something about their faith or spirituality online in the last six months. This was true of two-fifths of born again Christian teenagers (39%).
  • Furthermore, one-sixth of teenagers (16%) and one-quarter of born again teens (25%) said they had "a spiritual experience" online where they worshiped or connected with God" (2007).

How has the influence of increased engagement in social media and high availability of digital sources impacted the "Mosaics" since this Barna study was published five years ago?  What do you see as  changes?

Harnessing Slideshare as a Medium to Spread the Gospel

Slideshare is a powerful medium for global transmission of the Gospel.-- It's not only a means to share the Good News with the unreached or dechurched, but a way to bond the global faith community around it.

Recently, I posted a power point to Slideshare on the topic of brotherhood. I use this particular one as part of a teaching series on brotherhood and reconciliation.  Somewhat as an afterthought, I uploaded it with the intent of sharing it as a teaching resource. Mind you, it's a simple power point with hand-drawn images that illustrate lessons about brotherhood from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood program. I really didn't think too many would view the slides. To my surprise, a number of people from around the world opened it.

I have two accounts with Slideshare (Perspectives12 and ANLInstitute), and mutual purpose of teaching and sharing the Gospel message with each. It is not an overstatement to say that a proportionate  number of viewers from different countries read, share and download slideshares from both accounts on a regular basis.  People are hungry for the Word!

This poses two questions.

1. How can members of the Christ community connect with each other through Slideshare?

2. In what ways can Christians use Slideshare as evangelism tool?

Post your thoughts and tell how you feel about the subject of Slideshare as a medium to spread the Gospel.

Bible translation has always been painstaking, laborious work. It is not just the difficulty of the work itself; there are also the technical challenges translators face. In the old days each draft had to be typed manually—four or five times!—

Create A Key Word Cloud | Church 2.0 - the blog

From Church 2.0: "Most of us use design to communicate our message. We pick the right colors, choose the right fonts, and select the right media. But in the world of search engines, they don't care what your website looks like, or how slick your user interface is.

They only care about words. By indexing the words on your page, sites like Google and Yahoo can determine what your trying to say. they convert that into relevant information and plug your site into search results."

More than 2,200 volunteers responded to our call for help—a call for help that began with some simple Twitter messages and grew to include a fully interactive website, updates on our personal blogs, and frequent e-mail blasts.

In the weeks that followed, our social media efforts helped avert the "out of sight, out of mind" syndrome that happened when national media attention waned and the city itself got back to business as usual.
