wwwatanabe: Using Google in Interesting Ways--Learned at ISTE13 | Chromebooks at School | Scoop.it

One goal at ISTE13 was to learn more about the hidden world of Google -- the scripts, extensions, and apps. I honestly wasn't aware of them until I read Linda Yollis' post after she went to the Google Teacher Academy... which led me to a post by Amy Mayer atfriEDTechnology, with her video explanation/tutorial:

After watching the above video, I decided I needed to learn more about what Google offers. At ISTE13, I attended several sessions which added to this quest, including Cool Google Tools for the BYOD Classroom by Tammy Worcester, and Real World Math Lessons with Google Earth by Thomas Petra.

David Thornburg: Educational Technology’s Wild Card

David Thornburg: Educational Technology’s Wild Card | Chromebooks at School | Scoop.it

David Thornburg:

The fact is that the Chromebook emerged as a wild card in a field that never seems to stop and catch its breath.  Does this relegate tablets to the storage closets?  Of course not.  It merely suggests that we need to base our purchasing decisions on the best information we have at the time.  And, make no mistake about it, there will be something someday that eclipses the Chromebook.  This just reinforces the importance of ensuring that whatever purchase we make is based on the actually utility of the device to kids in support of their learning.  As long as we do that, we are on solid ground.

4 Ways To Make Digital Portfolios With Students - Edudemic

4 Ways To Make Digital Portfolios With Students - Edudemic | Chromebooks at School | Scoop.it

Via Beth Dichter, Jim Lerman

Beth Dichter's curator insight, September 17, 2013 10:50 PM

Have you considered having your students create a digital portfolio? As we move more and more to digital technology the ability to do this becomes easier, and the reasons you might do so seem to increase.A few of the reasons you might consider digital portfolio:

* students are able to  see their progress over time;

* it helps you as a teacher be able to track student progress more easily;

* it is easy to share with other teachers as students matriculate;

* they provide a tool for teacher and student to communicate.

One issue that has often stopped folks is how to save these portfolios. This post share four resources that you might consider using to do this: Evernote, Google Sites, WordPress and Edublogs. Each has a short explanation, oftem providing pros and cons.
