Malcolm Gladwell: The unheard story of David and Goliath

It's a classic underdog tale: David, a young shepherd armed only with a sling, beats Goliath, the mighty warrior. The story has transcended its biblical origins to become a common shorthand for unlikely victory. But, asks Malcolm Gladwell, is that really what the David and Goliath story is about?

Nelson Mandela: The Hero Of South Africa - ESPN

ESPN Nelson Mandela: The Hero Of South Africa ESPN Mr. Mandela, an amateur boxer and the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, rose from poverty and obscurity to defeat the white minority rule of apartheid and become the president of South Africa.
Pippa Davies @PippaDavies 's insight:
We have much to learn historically about this great leader. He galvanized people to do great things locally and internationally, and yet led humbly and quietly with dignity, poise and wisdom. Young and old, black and white, rise up and call him Madiba, father of a nation . As a young person growing up in Apartheid South Africa, Mandela was my hero, and role model for reconciliation and forgiveness. Not only will he be remembered for changing lives on the ground with homes and infrastructure, he will be remembered for living an authentic life for a cause we will never forget. 21 century education has much to learn from Nelson. Compassion, empathy, fortitude, engagement, collaboration, inquiry, humility, facilitation and empowerment. You did it Nelson and we salute you!! RIP Madiba, we love you!

Having read the book Almost Christian this article illustrates a rising trend in young adults.  How can the church address this debacle?  By listening to its youth, and trying to find ways to authenticate Jesus's beliefs in their lives.

Martin Pierce's curator insight, June 7, 2013 8:40 AM

This article barely mentions young earth creationism. I usually find that is about 50 percent of what atheists want to talk about.

This is like, "Let's try to reach atheists without worrying about whether we've embraced pseudoscience." Sorry, but for most atheists, that ain't gonna happen.

Christians have become more interested in market research than in questioning long-held assumptions about the Bible. Christianity is "broken" today, but the idea is that we just need to learn more about our "target audience." Yeah, right!

"No," they might reply, "we need to listen to people."

How about listening to God?

I refuted nearly every possible argument for young earth creationism in my book, Return to Genesis. See all my links at http://www.xeeme.com/MartinPierce
