One thing that i learned is that 1/3 of the worlds copper comes from Chile. Another thing is that Chile has one of the worlds longest dry spells where it didnt rain for 40 years. Chile is the number one exporter for salmon. In the mountains of Chile there are over 1300 volcanoes and a number of them could still be active today. Chile has the largest annual fireworks show in all of South America.

One of the best tourist attractions in Chile is the Chilean Patagonia. Chilean Patagonia has sub regions. The northern Aisen Region and, to its south, the Magallanes Region. Aisen is home to Laguna San Rafael National Park and the Austral Road (Carretera Austral). The Carretera Austral has become one of the most important attractions in Patagonia since it allows you to enter into a territory that still is open to discoveries.

There are many festivals that are celebrated in different parts of the country throughout the year in Chile, as well as, holidays celebrated throughout the country.  The first one is the fiestas patrias, or Independence Day, celebrated on the 18th and 19th of September with customary food and drink. The second most celebrated holiday is New Years Eve, especially in the streets of Valparaíso.  Tapatí on Easter Island and the La Tirana festival are other typical celebrations.

Chile today is most closely associated with the minning industry. An indusry which was brought to international prominence because of the rescue of 33 miners that got trapped in a mine in 2010. Mining is not the only industry that plays an important role in Chile's economy.In the past few decades, diversification has ensured a much more financially stable country.

Lunch is the biggest and most formal meal of the day in Chile. The main courses are quite hearty. Bistec a lo pobre, or what is called poor man's steak is one of the most popular meals for lunch. It is beefsteak with onions and a couple of fried eggs on top with french fries.Its name my sound cheap but it is acctually expensive because meat is not cheap in Chile.

In Santiago, Chile it is fairly hot at this time. Todays weather forcast the temperature was 73 degrees. The dew point was 55 degrees. And the visabilty was 10 miles. The wind was 17 miles per hour.

Pablo Neruda was a very famous person in chile. He was a poet that won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. Another important person in chile was Salvador Allende. He was the president of Chile from 1970 until 1973, and the first democratically elected Marxist president of Latin American country. Bernardo O'Higgins is mostly known for being the leader of Chilean independence from Spain.

In 1535 a group of Araucanian people successfully ward off the first spanish invasion of Chile. In 1541 Pedro de Valdivia begins a Spanish conquest and founds Santiago. In 1553 the Araucanians capture and kill Pedro de Valdivia. In 1814 Spain regains control of Chile. In 1818 Chile becomes independent and they had O'Higgins as a supreme leader.

Chile grows alot of different types of foods.Some major crops produced in Chile are grapes, apples, pears, and onions. Chile doesnt only grow fruits and vegetables. They also grow beef, poultry, and they catch alot of fish.

The deffinition of literacy: people over the age of fifteen that can read and write. In Chile the literacy rate for the whole country is 95.7%. The percent of males that can read and write is 95.8%. The amount of females that can read and write is 95.6%. So most of the people in Chile can read and write.

Sebastian Pinera was elected president of Chile in January 2010. He took office in March 2010. He is both the head of state and the head of government for Chile. He is responsible for government and state administration. The president is elected to serve for four years just like the United States but they can not be re-elected.
