Local residents say the militants kidnapped the children after they captured the city of Talafar in June and Shingal in August, Al-Alam reported. Witnesses also say they have abducted large numbers of girls and women and brutally killed hundreds of people in recent months. Sources say hundreds of Ezadi women and girls "who were abducted in Iraq have been distributed as spoils of war" to ISIL militants in recent weeks.

For children living in the outskirts of the capital, a walk to their favourite shop or a game of hide and seek near the colony park can mean the end of childhood. Children here are picked up like rabbits by falcons. And most children lost in the capital are never found again. Those, who do come back, often tell a story of abuse, torture, confinement and lingering trauma. It’s probably because the number of those recovered is so abysmal that the authorities haven’t been so alarmed yet about how the families and the children cope with this second coming.

Reading the words she and her son had said to each other so many times, she felt her heart had been ripped in two, reports the Sunday People.
