Invisible Children: Media, Mobilization, Protection and Recovery

Invisible Children: Media, Mobilization, Protection and Recovery | Child Soldiers | Scoop.it
Invisible Children focuses on the LRA conflict through an integrated four-part model: media, mobilization, protection and recovery
Mary Catherine Williams's insight:

Exploration of this sight is well worth the time you will invest. It provides essential background information, but also appeals for help. Use it to help understand why Joseph Kony and the LRA are sought after for their war crimes.

The early warning radio system seems like a great idea, though it's too bad that a community has to be attacked first before it starts working.
Terrance Germaine Belton's comment, September 4, 2013 12:07 PM
its better to give than receive , for them to give out a charity for them

Charity Navigator - Invisible Children: The Charity Behind KONY 2012

Charity Navigator - Invisible Children: The Charity Behind KONY 2012 | Child Soldiers | Scoop.it
Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator, provides free ratings of the Financial Health and Accountability & Transparency of thousands of charities.
Mary Catherine Williams's insight:

Watch the Kony 2012 video (if you haven't seen it!) and see how Charity Navigator and Invisible Children respond to the criticisms about how donations after Kony 2012 were spent. The critcisms created a backlash to the entire Kony 2012 social media explosion.

I think Olivias point is true, the making of the kony video if nothing else did attract attention to problem of child soldiers that does plague Africa throwing money at something dosent always make it better but getting the publics attention towards it very well could.
Alisha's comment, September 10, 2013 10:57 AM
First off I think it's just fabulous that organizations like Charity Naviigator exist. Just becuase an organization says they are doing something, doesn't mean they are. Charities need organizations like Charity Navigator to create a sort of checks and balances system. I am also happy to see that it doesn't look as if Invisible Children is simply blowing their donation money, or attempting to hide anything. I think this shows in the fact that Invisible Children does spend 80% of it's budget on programs and services, and in the fact that they did have an annual audit report prepared by an independent accountant. However, no one's and nothing perfect and there is always room for inprovement. This is evident by the facxt that Invisible Children has less than 5 independent Board members. I think this should be improved and increased becuase as I mentioned before, checks and balances is always a neccesary and essential thing.
James Buchanan's comment, September 10, 2013 12:08 PM
It's completely crazy and ridiculous how Kony's mark and grip on todays society is affecting so much in peoples lives. Especially the lives of the children that he holds and brain-washes as his "soldiers' the video that was posted is not doing anything but makin the viewers of the video more in a stage of shock and shame.

But it took until March 2012, when an online video made by a U.S. advocacy group, and seen by millions of people around the world, to bring Kony back in the press.
Mary Catherine Williams's insight:

Excellent background information regarding the phenom of the Kony 2012 video.Tens of thousands of children abducted for the purpose of serving as child soldiers or sex slaves? Worse yet, many of them mutilated. How should the U.S. respond to these atrocities?

I agree with you Darian it is not right that boys lives are being thrown away and the girls are being forced to grow up so fast. it ruin their lives mentally and emotionally.
Alisha's comment, September 10, 2013 10:40 AM
It is so amazing to me the many ways that technology effects today's society. Kony 2012 has been viewed by more than 100 million people simply by Invisible Children releasing a video. Kony is someone that the world needs to be aware of. People have to be pushed out of their own lives, and confort zones in order for them to care to make a difference. Kony has been causing mayhem since he took charge in 1988 of a rebellion among northern Uganda's ethic acholi minority. I am so glad to see politicians, especially well known and powerful politicians such as President Barrack Obama speaking out. President Barrack Obama presented Congress with a plan to disarm the LRA rebels in November. It's nice to see that he isn't just talking, but taking action as well.

i agree with you Justice girls have to grow and mature and having to stop living a normal childs life is not all that fair to them. We still want freedom just like anyone else.

Its sad that there are so many child soldiers in africa. In this article they said there arre 300,00 children soldiers in the world. another fact in the arcticle is that there is 40% in africa. there are alot in Uganda.
Chelsea Casey's comment, September 9, 2013 9:29 AM
Ramauda I agree, it is sad so many young children are apart of such a cruel act.
Yajiara Bra'Chel Roberson's comment, September 10, 2013 11:41 AM
I think kids that are that young should not be exposed to the violence that we lived. That just puts them in a worse situation then before because now they want to do what they see others doing and its not appropriate.

I agree with Ian's comment that it is wrong for Obama to use tax payer money for a lost cause because spending money we don't have. Since we are already in debt so much that we can not afford to go another 5 million dollars into debt. Also Obama being the United States financial planner he should know we have no money to spare in our budget.
Justice Carter's comment, September 10, 2013 11:38 AM
Chelsea your absolutely right , I feel that Obama is making the right move but is Kony really only worth that after everything he has done and put children through? No he deserves more as u said and more people should help make it known that he deserves worse for the things he has put the children through.
Dario Louis Lebron Young's comment, September 10, 2013 12:08 PM
I Love the fact how Obama is going after this guy. But just like the last person said "is this the only guy committing such crimes?" If He going to do this we need to take a stand and go after all the men that are just like him. I don't agree that the reward should be 5 million. It should be a lot less or maybe even nothing. The reward should be the satisfaction of getting a guy like this captured, That 5 million can used on something else to help us Americans with our financial needs instead.
