Seasonal Spice: Dilworth Pumpkin Patch

Seasonal Spice: Dilworth Pumpkin Patch | Charlotte North Carolina | Scoop.it

There are lots of reasons to be excited in October: the crisp fall air, leaves turning, hot apple cider on a cool night, patios that will soon be abandoned until springtime, Halloween looming ever closer…and pumpkins.

Who doesn't love a good pumpkin patch?

Monday, I went by the Dilworth Pumpkin Patch. It's right at the corner of East Boulevard and Scott Avenue…next to Jersey Mike's, across from Brixx and catty-corner to Starbucks. You can't miss it!

The pumpkin patch has popped up around this time of year for the last four years. It's actually part of Holiday Trees, LLC, run by James Dixon. He's a banker in Charlotte by day, but he started his tree farm in college, and it stuck. The farm is just across the state line in Virginia and Dixon goes up there at least once a month to check on it.

Currently staffed with approximately 40 underwriting professionals, plans are to expand the number of employees to 100 by the end of year.

"This new center enhances and expands our capabilities in support of our mortgage lending activities throughout our footprint," said Jeffrey McCabe, senior vice president of Consumer Direct Channel at SunTrust Mortgage Inc. "Charlotte - with its skilled workforce and existing SunTrust presence - was a natural location for this facility."

Peele, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, Mecklenburg/South Carolina Region. "In the last year, we've also added several new leaders across our consumer and commercial banking teams who have deep ties within the community. Charlotte is a dynamic, thriving metropolitan area, and we plan to roll up our sleeves and increase our involvement.

Charlotte Home Sellers - Are You Being Asked to Pay for Your Home's Marketing?

Charlotte Home Sellers - Are You Being Asked to Pay for Your Home's Marketing? | Charlotte North Carolina | Scoop.it

Charlotte Home Seller Tips -Are You Being Asked to Pay for Your Home's Marketing? Are you performing a Google search on the agents you're considering hiring?

What exactly is that saying to the Charlotte home sellers? It’s saying one of only two things…

1.  The agent has no operating capital. How does one run a business (which is what all Charlotte real estate agents are–business owners), with no operating capital?

2.  The agent has no confidence in his/her ability to actually SELL the property. Marketing, including videography and photography, should ALWAYS be expenses covered by the Charlotte real estate agent. That is part of doing business!

Will DNC bring more convention business?

Will DNC bring more convention business? | Charlotte North Carolina | Scoop.it

Will the Democratic National Convention bring the Charlotte Convention Center more business?

The CRVA and the DNC say there will be long-lasting effects, as the city enjoys the national spotlight for three days in September. Steve Kerrigan, chief executive of the DNC Committee, says Boston enjoyed a boom in convention business after hosting the 2004 DNC.

Boston isn’t so sure. The number of convention center hotel-room nights in Boston jumped by more than 35 percent in the year after the DNC. But Mac Daniel, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, said that increase came at the same time the city opened a new $850 million convention center.

Chiquita Likes its Charlotte Home, Seeks Fresh Brands

Chiquita Likes its Charlotte Home, Seeks Fresh Brands | Charlotte North Carolina | Scoop.it

As his company moves to Charlotte, CEO Fernando Aguirre is trying to reshape Chiquita Brands into something more than a purveyor of bananas, an iconic but low-margin fruit.

On Monday, during an interview with the Observer, Aguirre said Chiquita is expanding its brand into new products. The company last week reported an $11 million quarterly loss, as the price of bananas – which make up a large share of Chiquita’s revenue – slumped.

Chiquita is moving forward with its relocation to Charlotte and has hired more than 100 people locally. The company is planning to transfer about 160 employees, mostly from Cincinnati, and hire about 150 more in Charlotte to bring the total workforce to more than 400.

Charlotte after the bank crisis: 'Just fine, and you?' - Term Sheet

Charlotte after the bank crisis: 'Just fine, and you?' - Term Sheet | Charlotte North Carolina | Scoop.it

Preparing to host the Democratic convention, the nation's other financial hub looks beyond its wounded institutions.

FORTUNE -- Charlotte is a corporate town. Counting its suburbs, it's still home to eight Fortune 500 companies, thank you very much. It's still very much the country's other banking center. But to make sense of what's happened here in the past four years -- the bust, the bottom, and what comes next -- the best place to begin isn't at the junction of Trade and Tryon streets downtown (the city's Tigris and Euphrates) or even in the gleaming office parks a stone's throw from the South Carolina state line.
