This highly descriptive journal was published by the Ecological Society of America in 2009. It is a collection of climates in the Western United States burned by wildfires from 1916-2009 and allows the reader to observe patterns and therefore infer through observation and prior knowledge which areas in the Southwestern United Sates are due for another fire. Unfortunately, according to the journal, many of these fires could have been prevented altogether as they are likely the result of a cigarette thrown on the ground or a campfire that got out of control.
This video provides insight as to the locations of chaparral biomes primarily throughout the United States and how humans have come do adapt to these generally hot, arid regions. The most prominent chaparral in the United States that is mentioned in the video is that located in Southern California. Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and many other towns are located in the heart of the Southern California chaparral and will continue to have a negative effect on the ecosystem until people realize that their actions, however insignificant they may seem, have an impact on the Earth we live on and the people we live with.
“ The chaparral biome is one that is found in areas of every single continent. However, many people don’t realize it is the same.”

Garrett holmes's insight:
This informational selection is the compilation of a variety of observations and data collected by the BioExpedition, a group at the forefront of environmental issues. This article includes information about the flora and fauna of a typical chaparral biome, a brief description of the biome itself, and an in-depth summary of the characteristics of a healthy chaparral and the life it harbors. Moreover, this selection elaborates on the effect humans and industrialization have had on this landscape and what we can do the stop much of the damage being caused.
