Modernising higher education – Let professors be teachers too - University World News

Modernising higher education – Let professors be teachers too - University World News | Changing face of Higher education | Scoop.it

Not enough emphasis is placed on teaching as opposed to research in many of Europe’s top universities, concludes the European Union’s (EU) High Level Group on the Modernisation of Higher Education. Its central recommendation is that by 2020 “all staff teaching in higher education institutions should have received certified pedagogical training”.

Solving the Regulatory Challenges of International Campuses - WorldWise - The Chronicle of Higher Education | Changing face of Higher education | Scoop.it
Geraldine Lefoe's insight:

" “Advancing Access Through Regulatory Reform,” developed by the Commission on the Regulation of Postsecondary Distance Education, suggests creating a system of mutual recognition that places responsibility on the home states for the activities of their institutions when they cross state borders. The report focused primarily on the delivery of distance education, mostly via the Internet. However, there may be takeaways that could help inform discussions about international education."

As an 'unpaid' journal editor, this model piques my interest. A lot of stuff is happening in academia. Academic peer review has always been about 'social networks of academics', but it could use some transparancy, and open peer review is an interesting development in that regard.

A review of the HEQCO report on productivity and quality in online learning in higher education

A review of the HEQCO report on productivity and quality in online learning in higher education | Changing face of Higher education | Scoop.it

From Tony Bates blog: He critiques the report from Tom Carey and others.

Why this paper is important

In July, the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario published the above report. This is a very important development for online learning in post-secondary education as it takes a very hard look at quality, cost and productivity and comes forward with recommendations to government. This is a paper that is likely to be read (and should be read) by legislators, state and government policy makers, university and college boards and senior university and college administrators.

I am also exploring through a series of blogs the issue of productivity and online learning, partly because of dissatisfaction with the current state of thinking about this issue, which became apparent working with this project.
