This is both fascinating and scary. While it's been said before that gaming could change the world, I don't think that's what Jane McGonigal meant by making the world better through it. Darpa, the technology lab of the Pentagon, plans on using gaming interfaces and mechanics to make cyberwar much easier. “Say you’re playing World of Warcraft, and you’ve got this type of sword, +5 or whatever. You don’t necessarily know what spells were used to create that sword, right? You just know it has these attributes and it helps you in this way. It’s the same type of concept. You don’t need the technical details,” said to Wired Dan Roelker - the man behind the idea for this Plan X project. While this certainly makes sense from a pure military point of view, this raises many questions. While most military technology progress has been comlex to implement and costly, this is about making it easy and accessible to non-specialists. Not sure what happens next when the technology is leaked and everyone WoW player can become a cyber pirate...

When I read things like this I can't help but think that technology is actually starting to catch up to our imagination... we are essentially getting to a place where if you dream it, you can make it a reality.

For very little money, many more babies could survive their births. There are over a million babies that die each year that could be saved by using very inexpensive treatments and medicines.

We can come up with hundreds of ways to raise awareness on cyberbullying, but how do we actually know that people are getting the message? The best way is to give students, teachers and parents the most knowledge on cyberbullying, so that we can take the topic more seriously. The Big March is a virtual protest against cyberbullying that contains:
- An EU conference - An awareness raising video in 10 different languages - A virtual Big March against cyberbullying - A free app available in Google Play store
The project contains a video that shows what the Big March is all about. A group of students who are left with bruises, scars and tears, all walking in one direction while dressed in their school uniforms. The video shows unity, courage and strength from the ones effected by bullying.

Getting your children to go a whole week unplugged is not nearly as scary as it may sound. You can trust that there are plenty of things to do to keep their fertile minds occupied. So check out the rest of this story and jump on board and also check out iUnplug.com for to stay up on the unplugging news and events.
