Corporate immunology: Why companies seem to reject change

Corporate immunology: Why companies seem to reject change | Change management easy | Scoop.it
By Richard Crespin Companies, like all organisms, are lazy and defensive. More scientifically stated, companies try to protect the organism by responding to external stimulus with the most efficient use of energy. That is predictable, rationale, and effective. People and organizations don’t fear change. They fear loss. When something new appears in the environment – …

A New Equation for Change

A New Equation for Change | Change management easy | Scoop.it
Transformational change is the plan for moving from one’s “current state” to a desired “future state.” When you think about it, training is all about change. You train in order to increase knowledge and change behaviors to achieve and sustain desired business outcomes. Sometimes the training is mandatory, sometimes it’s voluntary, but change is always involved and all change needs to be managed.

Change Management Process - Step 7: Sustain Acceleration | Change management easy | Scoop.it
Jack Welch once stated, "an organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage." The same is true for the organizational change. Last week we discussed Step 6: Generate Short-Term Wins. This week, we direct our attention to Dr. John Kotter, Harvard Business School Professor and Entrepreneur, Change Management Process Step 7: Sustain Acceleration. The purpose of this post is to discuss the what, why, and how change management pr

The dumb idea that people fear change

And that's the reason why I am not working on so called "change resistance". Because the resistance nor the change are the problems. And trying to overcome resistance is exhausting and generally unfruitful, if not dangerous.

Working on all the things that might influence people to desire the change for themselves is way more interesting and rewarding.

Good article. Keys for me: If the people most affected by the change don't feel good about it, likely your change initiative will fail at worst and be costly, tiresome, and stressful at best.

Change management is an oxymoron. Change leadership is where it's at. People stuff is the hard stuff and management (projects, processes, policies, procedures, practices, and systems) the soft stuff

Daniel Tremblay's curator insight, October 1, 2015 8:53 AM

Prior McKinsey research on transformations confirms that change efforts are hard work and that implementation is critical to overall transformation success. The latest findings suggest that investing time and effort up front to design a transformation’s initiatives also matters. According to the new results, the most effective initiatives involve four key actions: role modeling, fostering understanding and conviction, reinforcing changes through formal mechanisms, and developing talent and skills. These actions are critical to shifting mind-sets and behaviors.

But it’s not enough to design a portfolio of initiatives based on one, or even two, of these actions. When executives report that their companies used all four, the odds of a successful transformation are much higher than if just one were used. The process of how initiatives are designed is critical too. When companies take a systematic approach to prioritizing initiatives and involve input from a range of company stakeholders, executives are more likely than average to report successful transformations.

This is a nice summary of Kotter's 8 Steps for successful change management.

Language is important in leading change, and this version interprets the steps with some new descriptions (to me anyway)

e.g.  "unleash burning ambition" and "lean into the gap"

These might work on your change programme - but use discretion!
