7 Secrets of Union Management Success with Teams, Michigan News

7 Secrets of Union Management Success with Teams, Michigan News | Change Leadership Watch | Scoop.it

What are the 7 secrets to sustainability with teams, management and unions? We presented our lessons learned at the recent Partnerships in Progress Michigan Labor and Management Association (MLMA) Conference in East Lansing, Michigan."

Overview:  Once what I want differs from what you want, we are in conflict. Conflict will naturally increase when shifting from a supervisor-to-employee model to a team model. This presentation describes a whole system, top to bottom and side to side process to implement teams in a union environment.

The “from me to we” shift is continuous process that requires a different type of renewal annually. With commitment to this approach, everyone from top management and union officials down to frontline supervisors and employees can mutually benefit.

Deb Nystrom, REVELN's insight:

Sustainability means "Never check the box" (the work never finishes) along with elevating the importance of growing relationships within and among union and management leaders and the work community.

This was one of my own recent presentations with Fenwick Koller Associates, who have made great progress in helping teamwork happen and sustain itself within very tradition-bound settings.  Let us know if you agree.

Solid Systems: A Michigan Muffin Mix's 21st Century Vision and Values

Solid Systems: A Michigan Muffin Mix's 21st Century Vision and Values | Change Leadership Watch | Scoop.it

"A rare CEO personal phone call:  After making a customer complaint, I received a phone call from the CEO of Jiffy mix, the top producer of baking mixes in America."

While Jiffy competes by selling quality products at the lowest price (40 to 60 cents for corn muffins, for example), most American companies now try to sell their products by making people feel inadequate.

Many of our best and brightest minds shuffle paper and money ...to earn big salaries, while the real creators of wealth — bakers, builders, farmers, inventors, teachers, designers, and doctors are loaded down by debt.

Jiffy mix is a welcome trend-breaker.

According to CEO Holmes, "Our staff puts more emphasis on internal and external relationships than we do on completing tasks. This is very different from most companies ... Our dedication to strong family business values, combined with real world professionalism has us uniquely situated for the 21st Century."

Deb Nystrom, REVELN's insight:

Michigan based Jiffy Mix will have to fend with GMO issues & carb reduction in the future.  Yet today they know where their core audience is and where they are going.  In the end, business is still all about sustainability, relationships and not just the short term bottom line. ~  Deb

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder Condemns GOP Official's Anti-Gay Remarks

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder Condemns GOP Official's Anti-Gay Remarks | Change Leadership Watch | Scoop.it

Michigan Republican National Committee member Dave Agema's anti-gay remarks last week are drawing criticism from fellow Republicans, including Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R).

At a GOP holiday party last week,  Agema said that gay people want health care reform because they die earlier in life. The Herald Palladium newspaper reported that Agema said he had seen gay colleagues at American Airlines claim AIDS victims as lovers so they could receive insurance benefits.

"There shouldn’t be room for that in any political party. We must make sure everyone is treated with respect and civility." ~ Gov. Snyder's spokeswoman, Sara Wurfel

"Folks, they (gay people) want free medical because they're dying (when they're) between 30 and 44 years old," Agema said, according to Herald Palladium.   "To me, it's a moral issue. It's a Biblical issue. Traditional marriage is where it should be and it's in our platform. Those in our party who oppose traditional marriage are wrong."

Snyder's spokeswoman, Sara Wurfel, said Tuesday that Agema's remarks "are extreme and discriminatory."   ...."There shouldn’t be room for that in any political party. We must make sure everyone is treated with respect and civility."

...After Agema's comments last week were widely reported, he sent an email to supporters, saying the original article "twisted [his] speech far out of context."

"I was simply making a point about my opposition to same sex benefits and for traditional marriage," he wrote. "I stand by my words as I said them despite efforts by others to twist the meaning of those words. I strongly support the GOP Platform, the Michigan Constitution and the RNC Resolutions passed in support of Traditional Marriage and will not back down from those principles."

Deb Nystrom, REVELN's insight:

Agema has been in the press several times before for the same issue.  It is up to the voters of Michigan to decide regarding facts of this politician and what he is promoting.   ~  D

Return of the Ford to Investment Grade, 3rd Investor Service Certifies: The Blue Oval is Back.

Return of the Ford to Investment Grade, 3rd Investor Service Certifies: The Blue Oval is Back. | Change Leadership Watch | Scoop.it

"A big milestone for Ford today, after mortgaging nearly all Ford assets and borrowing $23.5 billion from their banks, Moody’s Investor’s Service has lifted the Ford credit rating to investment grade."

The blue oval is back.

Change leaders take risks, sometimes very big ones.  Ford exemplified this by avoiding backruptcy and borrowing from the government.

Excerpts:

In 2006, Ford put it all on the line. We began the Ford turnaround plan by mortgaging nearly all of our assets and borrowed $23.5 billion from our banks – a “giant home improvement loan,” as Ford CEO Alan Mulally likes to call it.

This allowed us to pour that money into research and development so we could make world class cars that people want and value. You’re seeing the results of that success now with the global Fiesta and Focus, the all-new Ford Explorer, the fuel efficient and technologically capable new Ford Escape and the new 2013 Ford Fusion, due out later this year.

Along with our factories and equipment, one of the assets Ford mortgaged was our none other than our iconic logo – the blue oval. The blue oval has long been associated with Ford and as a brand logo, it’s recognized worldwide.

The script in the middle of the oval was taken from the original script created in 1912 and has been part of the Ford heritage for a century. And since Ford returned to profitability beginning in 2009, we have been paying down our debt against that loan.

But because Ford credit had been below investment grade since 2005, the banks would not return those assets to us including the blue oval – until at least three credit rating firms granted Ford investment grade status. Last month, Fitch’s was the second to restore Ford to that level.

Today, we received notice that Moody’s Investor’s Service has lifted the Ford credit rating to investment grade. The blue oval is back.
