Google Wallet Ushers in a New Era in Online and Mobile Fundraising for Nonprofits

Google Wallet Ushers in a New Era in Online and Mobile Fundraising for Nonprofits | Cha-Ching | Scoop.it

On August 1, Google quietly launched Google Wallet for the Web – and the technology has the possibility of transforming online and mobile fundraising as we’ know it. Described simply, donors can sign up for a Google Wallet account, enter and save their credit card information, and then donate to any nonprofit (or purchase from any online store) that has a Google Wallet merchant account with only two clicks of a mouse (or two taps on a tablet). Your contact and financial information is stored in the cloud and your donation history is easily accessible in your Google Wallet account. What makes this even more interesting is that if you have an Android mobile device, you can then take your mobile wallet with you on your smartphone for point-of-sale transactions that occur offline.

Friends ready to bear all in new fundraiser

Friends ready to bear all in new fundraiser | Cha-Ching | Scoop.it

Morinville – Two bucks can go a long way to helping a local cause and a long way towards winning a one-of-a-kind creation. The Friends of the Morinville Public Library are holding their second annual Teddy Bear Raffle, once again giving away a hand-made fur teddy bear. Friend’s President April Heppleston said there was some concern last year from library patrons the bear was made from real fur. The fundraiser said vintage coats and not newly acquired furs are the source of the bear’s material.

“Last year’s bear was our Centennial bear. It included a Centennial coin and was made from a coat that was light coloured mink with dark brown leather,” Heppleston explained. “This year’s bear is a very dark brown Mouton; sheepskin made to resemble sheared beaver.”

Libraries look to unique fundraisers for support

Libraries look to unique fundraisers for support | Cha-Ching | Scoop.it

With circulation and usage on the rise at many libraries, officials are looking at unique ways to raise funds to buy books and materials to address that increase use, or to keep their buildings in good repair.

"We want people to experience the library like they never have before," said Kimberly Litland, director of the Brookfield Public Library. "We want them to have a glass of wine and see that the library is a fun place." That's why the Brookfield Library started in 2005 to hold Taste of Brookfield, an event that attracts about 200 people who can have a glass of wine or beer and taste samples provided by the village's different restaurants.

The Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien will host its Singin' in the Stacks event on Nov. 3. Tickets are $15, and party-goers will be able to rock out on stage to their favorite tunes and enjoy snacks and a cash bar. The goal of the event is to raise money for upgraded computers and software for children.

The Downers Grove Library has already held its own twist on a unique fundraiser this year, an 18-hole miniature golf tournament held in April inside the library. The library remained open while 400 players tried to hit golf balls into the holes.

Library fundraiser lets participants make money, too

Library fundraiser lets participants make money, too | Cha-Ching | Scoop.it

Organizers of a new fundraiser, dubbed the Parking Lot Sale, at Salem-South Lyon District Library are giving supporters a chance to make money for themselves, too. “It's a good way for local businesses to collaborate with us for a personal fee and to promote their businesses,” said Lindsay Levier, library public relations coordinator. “And it's a good way for the community to get together at the library and see everything that we offer. We offer a lot more than books, and sometimes people lose sight of that.”  Forty-seven spaces will be sold at $25 each. So far, spots have been purchased by a crafts vendor; an artisan who makes organic soaps and body scrubs and a local chiropractor.
