FITCHBURG — Public libraries are not just buildings with books in them. Teachers will tell you that libraries are not only important for their students but also for the community. Two retired teachers, Frances Marshall and Jane Canciellieri, are doing what they can to keep the Fitchburg Public Library current by knitting and donating scarves, mittens and hats to the Friends of Fitchburg Public Library's Nancy Project. On Nov. 26, the library will host the annual hand-knit Scarf Sale with hundreds of knitted goods available. The sale will buy books and DVDs, needed equipment and subscriptions, and help with library events and projects.
