Affair and vengeful wife rip apart 9/11 law firm | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it

Christopher Pearsall's Insight:

Not surprisingly even prominent figures in the legal field are not immune to corruption, scandal, trashy threats, embezzlement, and other unsavory tactics where there private lives are open for all to see in newspapers and tabloids when it comes to infidelity and divorce.

What is it that attracts people to these things?  Why does this sell papers or garner attention from millions of people on tv and the internet?  Is it purely informational purposes?  Is it to provide gossip for the next party or meeting?  Is it to keep abreast of what is going on in their field?  Or is it because it makes them feel better?

What does it say about us that this interests us?  Does it say even more  about us if we share it with others?  Perhaps it gives us hope that our lives are not so bad well the well-to-do or rich and famous are plummeting from their financially prestigious lofty status to look more like everyone else.

Whatever the reason, it does little to aid the legal professions image to see all of these things taking place by numerous lawyers and their spouses and associates.

Make of it what you will and decide for yourself.  This one certainly is one for the record books if the details reported are correct.

Mickey Rooney Disinherited His Children and Left Only $18,000 When He Died | TIME

Mickey Rooney Disinherited His Children and Left Only $18,000 When He Died | TIME | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
The legendary entertainer, who had signed his last will just weeks before his recent death at age 93, left a modest estate to a stepson who had been his caretaker but disinherited many of his children as well as his estranged wife
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Mickey Rooney was a true legend in motion pictures and film.  His recent appearances in A Night at the Museum were not only a treat but a testament to his talent even in his aging years.

Yet disinheriting children and an estranged wife are indeed a mystery that Mickey may have taken with him to the grave.  This story of Mickey is both interesting and reflective on his history as an actor.

As one who always enjoyed his performances, he will be missed.

If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing some of his performances... I strongly recommend that you get a sense of his presence and what real acting is like.... without the special effects!

Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Well, I can't really be thrilled with the way TMZ handled this article and with the sensationalism they add to the whole thing it's hard to know what is what.  Don't you agree?  Did Brittany Kerr break up Jason Dean's marriage or is his supposed relationship with her merely the result of a relationship gone sour?

That's what many divorce lawyers have to ask themselves when meeting with clients.  Often times relationships are the result of a marriage that has gone sour yet neither party can bring themselves to file for divorce yet.  Perhaps this merely sounds worse than it is.  After all, the media can make just about anything sound horrible if they use the right words and leave out a few facts.

Source: Charlie Sheen increases Mueller's child support

Source: Charlie Sheen increases Mueller's child support | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it

Charlie Sheen has reportedly volunteered to increase his ex-wife Brooke Mueller's child support money from $20k to $55k/month.

Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Charlie, why are you willing to voluntarily increase the child support for your sons to Brook Mueller for your sons but still ask the court for a decrease regarding his daughters with his ex-wife Denise Richards?

What is it?  His relationship with his sons (Max and Bob) versus his daughters (Sam and Lola)?  His relationship with each of the mothers of his children?

$20k to $55k by a voluntary increase in child support.  That's no drop in the bucket.  Makes you wonder what the reason for the decrease is.  Did they award Denise too much money?  Does he need the reduction to help cover the $35k increase to the boys?

Lots of questions and no concrete answers.  That's the problem with being a lawyer.  We want facts and not conjecture and speculation from newspapers.

Christopher Pearsall's insight:

At least Josh Lucas has it right.  Divorce isn't something to be used to punish but sometimes it comes out that way.  Sometimes its a lousy and torturous process.  Yet good people know better than to wish it on anyone or to revel in the bitterness.

Josh will continue to work with his wife and he doesn't seem to be taking the wrong road along divorce like many have.  Whether you have a lawyer or not .... I always suggest finding peace for yourself.  It's not about hurting another person.  Divorce is about separating your legal bond with dignity and integrity.  In the background it also involves realizing that life goes on and it's best to make the best of the situation.  Anger, contempt and bitterness only continue to create more of that.  Finding peace is the only road worth traveling.

I know... I've been there.

Lauren Silverman finalises her divorce - hellomagazine.com | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
Simon Cowell's pregnant girlfriend Lauren Silverman finalises her divorce from Andrew Silverman.
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

It is nice to see that Lauren has indicated in this publication that she wanted an amicable divorce with her husband, Andrew Silverman, The timing seemed somewhat strange after she found out that she was pregnant, which typically is another thing that often makes people reconsider the relationship but the obvious non-disclosure and perhaps assumption that Simon Cowell is the father of the child explains the possible lack of hesitation.

Yet Lauren certainly isn't sitting on the sidelines as it seems she's waiting for Simon Cowell's proposal.

Britney: I want to marry again

Britney: I want to marry again | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
She has two failed marriages behind her but Britney Spears is still looking for her happily ever after admitting she would love to walk down the aisle again.
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Two failed marriages behind her and two children already but two divorces isn't shaking Britney spears from wanting that dream guy of her life and more children.  Possibly twins.

Yet I wonder.  What didn't she learn the first time that caused the 2nd marriage to turn into something she couldn't continue to stay in.

Do people get so busy with the details of careers, and contracts, and singing tours and their "big star" appearances that they fail to take the time to do the work you have to put in to keep a relationship alive?

Relationships are just like plants.  They need pruning.  They need nourishment.  They need to drink in the everyday things that water our lives with joy and beauty, warmth and love.  Without these things relationships die.  So what happens with celebrities?  Are they so caught up with all the "to dos" of their stardom that they pay so little attention to relationships that give life its joy?

When all is said an done, what do people look back most on?  Usually it's times with friends, parents, aunts, uncles, and children.  You can't take money with you.  You can't take youth with you.  You usually can't take fame with you forever as newer stars replace those who are aging and don't look like the hunks or models they used to be.

Relationships and memories are the lifeblood of a life well-lived.

Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore Divorce Settled via Twitter IPO | | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
Two years of intractable bickering result in a 50/50 settlement mere days before $13 billion liquidity event. Coincidence or necessity?
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Ashton and Demi finally finalized their settlement.  It's hard to believe that it took 2 years for them to come to an agreement but with lawyers and a bulk of assets I suppose as a divorce lawyer should not expect anything less.  Sadly I had hoped that Ashton and Demi would beat the odds.  Age is not a barrier to love and I've seen significant age gaps defy the odds.  Despite the age difference between the two, Ashton and Demi still look great together.  Yet in the end I am glad that it is over for them.  Arguing over money isn't the way to spend one's life.  Money is .... after all simply a means to another end, be it fame, boats, planes, retirement, etc.... but how much do we need... billions???  So how much did their lawyers make over this 2 years?  How much was lost simply battling?  How much time did they lose out of their lives fighting in lawyers offices, in depositions, having documents produced, attending court hearings, paying lawyers, and being stressed out over all of these things, all the time losing time in their lives that they can never get back.

Yet life continues on and I wish the best for you Ashton and Demi and I hope that you find whatever brings happiness in your life.  Just remember that things are only that... things.

Jon Z. Bennington's curator insight, October 24, 2013 4:44 PM

Watching this couple on the movie screen as a child, and then finding out that they ended up getting married later on because of the passion that they found on the set was fascinating to me. They were married a long time, especially for a "Hollywood" couple, but like many others their marriage failed as well. Like Eastwood's cowboy, Hogan's Crocodile Dundee seemed like a man who had what it takes to make a woman happy. It goes to show the power of "Hollywood" and that I should quit thinking like a boy.

Usher accused of being negligent, absentee father by ex-wife

Usher accused of being negligent, absentee father by ex-wife | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
Tameka Foster Raymond has been granted an emergency hearing for custody one day after she and Usher's 5-year-old son, Usher V, nearly drowned in the singer's pool.
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

A trial was had in this case and the father was given physical custody of the children in this marriage.  The mother claimed bias and asked for the judges' recusal because Usher's attorney participated in a campaign that supposedly raised over 80% of the judge's last campaign run.  The judge recused herself but stated that the attorney's participation had nothing to do with her decision following trial.

I understand how people are who lost a battle are quick to judge or allow a lawyer to possibly embellish what happened in order to press an emergency ex-parte motion to grab the child or children.  This article, however, seems to go back and forth.

I invite you to read my article on at the link below to get longer analysis that shows you how tricky this one article can be.

Halle Berry Child Support Settlement Escalates Battle of the Sexes - MainStreet

Halle Berry Child Support Settlement Escalates Battle of the Sexes - MainStreet | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
Halle Berry Child Support Settlement Escalates Battle of the Sexes MainStreet NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry joins the ranks of celebrity moms like Madonna and Britney Spears who are paying child support to the father of...
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Berry agreed to pay $16,000 a month to her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry for the joint care of their 6-year old daughter Nahla.

"Halle's $200,000 a year child support plus tuition would only be 2% of a $10 million dollar portfolio and may not be a big deal to her just like $2,000 from a $100,000 portfolio in a middle-income person'sasset bracket isn't a big deal,"

The former Hollywood couple's squabble included a physical altercation between Aubry and Berry's current husband Olivier Martinez at a time when Berry had been pushing for permission to relocate to France, but Judge Gordon blocked the move. The parents will share equal custody of Nahla.

In Rhode Island many women do not pay child support.  There is no recognized quality.  The courts weigh the factors but the factors weigh heavily in favor of the placement parent which is in most cases the mother of the children as the "placement parent" and primary caretaker of the children.

Divorce changes everything.  Placement parent or primary caretaker really doesn't mean a whole lot when divorce changes the whole dynamic.  It may be basis for determining a placement parent but there is still no reason to deny a father 50% of the time as parenting time unless there is no way he could perform or use the 50% with the children even if it's with positive extended family.

Let's wake up conservative states.  Stop demoting fathers.  We equally contribute to create the child.  Shouldn't we equally have time parenting the child?  Too many times the court goes the traditional route and places the child with the parent who is bitter and alienates the child or children from the other parent.  This, in turn causes dysfunctional families, lost parents, damaged children and children who often have dysfunctional relationships well into adulthood.

The standards need to be changed.  Superstars end up paying substantial child support..... it's a given.  Yet what is the overall benefit to the children.  Has the court looked carefully at it.  Or has the court been given a superficial look at the children and the parents merely to clear the docket.

Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Most expensive celebrity divorces really shows the enormous disproportionality of wealth and extravagance in our country as celebrities fight over and squander more than most of us will ever have in 5 lifetimes while most of us struggle to get by and try to do right by our children.

While it is nice to have celebrities and for the media industries to make their money off movies, spin offs, music albums, concerts, etc.... the absurdity of how much they make for what they do  or how they look from being "discovered" somewhere shows just how absurd it is how much some celebrities are paid and even more absurd how much some lawyers are paid for them to fight about what they have earned thereby wasting even more time and money from their lives instead of acting like adults.

Perhaps a good reality show would be divorces of the absurdly wealthy and childish.  If these celebrities want some reality perhaps they should sit in court with non-celebrities and hear the amounts they make as mothers and fathers struggle to get by on unemployment of a family of 4 with $600 a week.

You want to see reality?  Don't watch a reality show!

Symptoms of Separation Anxiety Disorder in Children | anxiety disorder in children

Symptoms of Separation Anxiety Disorder in Children | anxiety disorder in children | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it

Separation anxiety disorder is a chronic psychological condition that occurs when a separation from a loved one such as in divorce situations causes apprehension, anxiety and other feelings of disassociation.

Christopher Pearsall's insight:

About 5% of all children from the ages of 7 to 11 years old experience some form of separation anxiety.  It affects boys and girls and can take any form of symptoms depending upon how the child processes it.

In divorces or contemplated divorces it is often the case that the parents may split up for a time.  In divorces, the parents most certainly end up splitting eventually.  If there are children and they have been used to particular routine and closeness with the children then it is not unusual for the children to react with any of a number of forms of separation anxiety.  Separation anxiety is an apprehension and/or anxiety that children process in any number of ways from panic attacks to stomach aches to night terrors and major abandonment issues when they sense a separation from one or both parents or even from the family pattern and consistency that they are used to.

In some cases I am aware that as a divorce lawyer if these things go untreated that they can develop into a deeply ingrained post-traumatic stress disorder.

I have been through a divorce where this is the case.  I didn't understand it back then.  Why the symptoms presented themselves as they did, in such a strange form, but I understand now.  Education is the key!  As a parent I wish I would have understood these things better.  Separation anxiety needs to be recognized and treated both by the parents and by a profession if possible.

Charlie Sheen, $105,000 a month - In Photos: Big-Ticket Baby Daddies: Celebrity Child Support By The Numbers | Celebrities and Family Law Issues | Scoop.it
When Charlie Sheen divorced Brooke Mueller in 2011, the mother of twins Bob and Max, he was ordered to pay $55,000 a month in child support. In addition, Sheen pays $50,000 each month to ex-wife Denise Richards, mother of daughters Sam and Lola.
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

If you want to see the Forbes Top 7 Child Support paying fathers, the figures are quite staggering.

As a child who grew up with hand me downs from cousins and the 5 of us living in a trailer, I no doubt know what it is like not to have money and I have been there as an adult too.  So it makes me wonder... how much do children need to live reasonably.

Some parents are getting $50 for an entire month for child support and Charlie Sheen's ex-wife is receiving $105,000 a MONTH!

Is there any need to wonder why the finances of our world are unbalanced and many people go without?

My curiosity lies more in knowing where all the celebrity moms are who pay child support and what their child support figures are.

Beyoncé And Jay Z Trial Separation? Rapper Apparently Ignores Wife And Blue ...
Christopher Pearsall's insight:

Part of the question is whether tabloid gossip is true or not.  Make sure that when you read this short article that you do it with a keen eye.  One of the things that tabloid journalism often lacks is accuracy and uses "puffery", "inuendo" and "speculation."    Words like "supposedly" don't tell you anything.  There are too many such words in this article so take it with a grain of salt or whatever grains you may be willing give to it.

However, the things contained in the article are certainly things that could cause the breakdown of a relationship.  Ignoring your significant other's feelings, desires, wishes.  or perhaps going your own way without keeping your significant other informed.  Any relationship has communication and trust needs work and tender love and care.  A relationship that is not nurtured will not grow, thrive or survive.  Relationships take work because anything worth any value takes work and is worth it.
