A project in a day-- poster contest

A project in a day-- poster contest | CEET Meet (May'2012): Build a Project Based Course From the Ground Up ~ Sharon Betts | Scoop.it

Shared by Caterina Valntino:

"I just ran a successful in-class poster contest for two classes of third year university students. The students arrived at 9:00 AM for class. They were given a topic new to them. Each group had from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM to do the research (online), manage their breaks and do the project. Judging commenced at 1:00 PM. The only technology they could use was for word processing. I provided the poster boards and paper, glue low tech supplied. Judges were professionals from the community. Most sought after supply was goggle eyes."

student-led learning and used some non-traditional forms of teaching and assessment, such as presentations and group projects. The majority reported good feedback from students. The academics also told me that IBL helps to strengthen the relationship between teaching and research."

Expeditionary Learning | Engaging Students, Transforming Schools | CEET Meet (May'2012): Build a Project Based Course From the Ground Up ~ Sharon Betts | Scoop.it

"Expeditionary Learning schools inspire the motivation to learn, engage teachers, and students in new levels of focus and effort, and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning. We provide a model that challenges students – even those starting with low skill levels – with high-level tasks and active roles in the classroom. This model succeeds in urban, rural, and suburban schools and at every grade level."

Flat Classroom Project

Flat Classroom Project | CEET Meet (May'2012): Build a Project Based Course From the Ground Up ~ Sharon Betts | Scoop.it

"The Flat Classroom® Project is a global collaborative project that joins together middle and senior high school students. This project is part of the emerging tend in internationally-aware schools to embrace a holistic and constructivist educational approach to work collaboratively with others around the world in order to create students who are competitive and globally-minded."

"One of the main goals of the project is to 'flatten' or lower the classroom walls so that instead of each class working isolated and alone, 2 or more classes are joined virtually to become one large classroom. This is done through the Internet using Web 2.0 tools such as Wikispaces and Ning."

"The project was co-founded by Vicki Davis (Westwood Schools, USA) and Julie Lindsay(Beijing (BISS) International School, China) in 2006when Julie (then in Bangladesh) and Vicki joined their classrooms together for the first time to study and emulate the emerging flattened learning environment."
