Miami-based DJ and producer Cedric Gervais says he's still processing his first Grammy win for his smash hit remix, “Summertime Sadness,” featuring singer Lana Del Rey.

“It feels amazing. It’s one of the biggest accomplishments for musicians. I’m still processing it. It’s an amazing feeling,” he told NBC 6.

Gervais, 34, who was born in France, has been a Miami resident since he was 15 years old and says Miami is his home.

Juanes & Cedric Gervais on Leading Latin Pop/EDM Movement: 'It's the Right ... - Billboard - August 2015

Juanes & Cedric Gervais on Leading Latin Pop/EDM Movement: 'It's the Right ... - Billboard - August 2015 | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

As far as musical bromances go, this is one of the more unexpected ones -- but that doesn’t make it any less genuine.

“I saw you on a huge billboard in Los Angeles today, my friend,” Juanes excitedly tells Cedric Gervais during a recent conference call with Billboard. On Aug. 19, the Colombian rock star will be joined by his French DJ/producer friend at New York City’s Madison Square Garden as part of his Loco de Amor tour. The two are set to perform their ethereal Latin pop-meets-EDM duet, “Este Amor” [This Love], which they first unveiled at the Sunset Music Festival earlier this summer to a massive crowd.

But this time, Gervais will be on Juanes’ turf, amid a sea of proud, flag-waving Colombians. “I’m a bit nervous, but it’s a good feeling,” says the globetrotting EDM superstar of his first time playing at the Garden. After the NYC gig, he’ll jet off to Ibiza, his home for the rest of the summer.

It was Gervais’ idea to collaborate with Juanes, whose music he first heard while playing in Colombia some eight years ago, long before his 2013 remix of Lana del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” made him a household name. “I had a Colombian girlfriend at the time, and I started developing a big love for the country and making friends down there,” Gervais remembers, adding that he actually bought Juanes’ Mi Sangre CD. “It doesn’t matter what language it is, when it’s good music, it’s good music, and I instantly connected with ‘La Camisa Negra,’ ” he says in his charming French accent.

Juanes Goes EDM, Debuts New Song With Cedric Gervais 'Este Amor': Listen

Good music -- and the world’s thirst for it -- is exactly what Juanes and Gervais are after, regardless of language or genre. “EDM is very large, but it’s not at its peak yet,” says Gervais. “From my travels to South America it’s clear that people down there are obsessed with electronic music, just like they’re obsessed with rock n roll, and great music in general. With the peak of EDM and the Latin community growing all over the world, it’s the right timing for something like this. But you gotta have the right artist to pull it off. Juanes was my guy.”

Other Latin superstars are already emulating “Este Amor.” Maná, for instance, called on Steve Aoki to remix its new single “La Prisión.” That he and Juanes may have unintentionally sparked some major trend is flattering, says Gervais. “We did this out of a serious love for the music. There’s nothing else. But it’s cool that someone out there might be like, ‘Oh, they might be onto something big.’ ”

On the EDM side, some of Gervais’ peers are wondering why they didn’t do it first. “David Guetta is one of my closest friends and I said to him, ‘David, I want you to listen to this,’” recalls Gervais. “He listened to the thing and he goes, ‘This is sick. I get it. It’s not cheesy; it’s good.’ He was kind of freaking out like, ‘Man, I should’ve thought about this before!’”

Maná & Steve Aoki Partner Up for Fist-Pumping 'La Prisión' Remix Video: Watch

The key, of course, was not just doing it, but doing it right, and that involved Gervais spending time at Juanes’ Miami home, sharing his vision for the song -- and then just letting go. “Cedric told me, ‘Don’t worry about anything. Just write a [Spanish-language] song as if you’re playing on an acoustic guitar, almost like a ballad, and then I will take care of the rest,” says Juanes, who admits to being intimidated by the whole process at first. But the chance to do something risky with someone he respects compelled him, even if the Latin audience, however loyal, is often risk-averse. Balancing his fans’ expectations, the pressure of the industry, and his own artistry is something he’s been working on since day one.

“From the moment I released ‘La Camisa Negra’ I started thinking about not doing the same thing again because it’s not going to be exciting,” admits Juanes. “If I feel that vibe again of course I’ll do it, but what I don’t want is just to do it because that song was successful and then I end up with a bad version of ‘La Camisa Negra,’” adds the 43-year-old father of three with a laugh. “I’m trying to have a long career and stay relevant over the years. Sometimes it’s hard, but in the end it pays off.”

For Gervais, it was important not to take his collaborator out of his element. “A lot of artists in my world, they don’t understand artists like Juanes, so when you want to do something special you don’t just give them a beat that you created and say, ‘Here, write to this,’ because then you’re not going to get the magic.”

Juanes Gives Fans the Ultimate Insider Experience During Rehearsal for Loco de Amor Tour

Part of that magic was recording the tune in Juanes’ native language. “This is who Juanes is, that was the whole point of it, to do something completely different,” adds Gervais. “The American fans, it’s not that they don’t understand it, but they just don’t comment on it. The response that I have from my Latin fans has been ridiculous.”

To be clear: Juanes isn’t against recording in English in order to reach more people. In fact, he says that lately he’s been toying with the idea in the studio more than usual. And his ability to carry a full, articulate conversation in English these days is impressive (that wasn't always the case). But there’s no rush to go in that direction, especially when his fans continue to connect with his songs all around the world. “I was in Europe two weeks ago and I was performing everything in Spanish and the local audience from Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, they were singing along and I was thinking, ‘Wow, maybe I don’t need to do it.’”

It’s on the road that Juanes finds the biggest reassurance that he’s doing the right thing. Music, he says, is “a spiritual experience,” a means for a message of positivity and peace. The same week in which he performs at Madison Square Garden, he’ll be performing at a United Nations event for World Humanitarian Day. Then, on Sept. 26, he’ll play for Pope Francis in Philadelphia as part of the Festival of Families, an international celebration of family, community, and faith.

“I always want people to feel good, to feel happy, and look at the world in a positive way,” says Juanes in response to why he wants to be around for the long-run. “Connecting -- that’s what it’s about.”

What could be more universal than that?

Preview: ODESZA vs Cedric Gervais – Say My Name feat. Zyra - The Bangin Beats - August 2015

Preview: ODESZA vs Cedric Gervais – Say My Name feat. Zyra - The Bangin Beats - August 2015 | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

Time for some new dazzling breathtaking music, as one of the signature tracks of the American duo ODESZA, ‘Say My Name‘, that had featured some divine vocals by Zyra and had gone trending all around the world in little time, has just received a completely new revamp by the Grammy winning individual, Cedric Gervais! The remix was premiered on Pete Tong‘s BBC Radio 1 show. Cedric has simply outdone himself and has overhauled the whole track, implementing an entirely new and unique progressive house touch on the song.

Beginning with the same old vocals by Zyra that you’re well aware of, the track progresses with the progressive synths slowly coming in hand-in-hand with a compelling melody, which unleashes itself completely as the bass drops! The genre of music you’re into simply doesn’t matter here and you’re gonna love this track nevertheless, its just that classic and wonderful. The drums softened by the extreme bass, and the tune progressing like it was just never meant to stop, this highly energized and BPM-boosted track is ideal for everyone to dance to.

The track kicks off on Beatport the 14th of September. Until then, check out this illustration of true brilliance down below

Juanes And Cedric Gervais Fuse Latin Pop With EDM In New 'Este Amor' Single - Huffington Post

Juanes And Cedric Gervais Fuse Latin Pop With EDM In New 'Este Amor' Single - Huffington Post | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

Juanes' tender lyrics get amped in the Colombian singer's newest single.

In a track that may possibly be a first of its kind, the Spanish-language artist dipped into the electronic dance music genre with "Este Amor," a new single created in collaboration with Grammy-winning French DJ and producer Cedric Gervais.

Gervais surprised a sea of fans during his scheduled set at the Sunset Music Festival in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, when he brought Juanes on stage to publicly debut the song.

After asking the crowd, "Donde esta mi gente Latina!?" (Where are my Latin people!?) in his best Spanish, Gervais said he wanted to welcome one of his favorite artists to perform the "never been done before" track.

Juanes shared a behind-the-scenes video of the moment and the performance on Facebook Tuesday.

The new single will be released soon, though a date has yet to be announced. Juanes told The Huffington Post the collaboration came about after Gervais reached out to him with the idea.

"I feel very happy to be able to experiment with a different genre of music," Juanes told HuffPost. "I've loved electronic music for many years and I think that I couldn't be in better company than with Cedric."

"The invitation came from him and the truth is that it was a different experience creating this song," he added. "Obviously when I wrote it I wasn't thinking about any electronic arrangement because he would be doing that. He simply just gave me a [beats per minute] and over that bpm I began to work on the melodies and lyrics with my acoustic guitar. Eventually he took the song to another level. And the truth is I'm very happy with the result. It's a new experience for me and it enriches me greatly."

Cedric Gervais - L.A. Weekly - September 2015

Cedric Gervais - L.A. Weekly - September 2015 | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

Not too long ago, Cedric Gervais had the remix of the summer with his take on Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness,” a fact which was immortalized (and parodied) in another infamous summer hit by The Chainsmokers, “Selfie.” But Gervais’ music is much more diverse than what blew up on radio. His latest track, a remix of Odesza’s “Say My Name,” is as dance-ready and fun as you should expect from Gervais. Gervais is soft on the verses, simple and anthemic on the chorus. He’s also no stranger to foreign vocals, as evidenced by his recent collab with Juanes on the melodic “Este Amor.” And that’s just some of his recent stuff. Check out any of his sets from the big (and small) fests of the world, and you’ll see what his mega fans already know: Gervais puts on one kickass show.

Fall in Love Again With Cedric Gervais - Vegas Seven

Fall in Love Again With Cedric Gervais - Vegas Seven | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

Miami-based DJ Cedric Gervais came to prominence in Las Vegas after topping the charts with his remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness,” then winning a Grammy in 2014. Over the past couple of years, he’s released hit after hit with remixes of “Young and Beautiful” (another Del Rey track) and Miley Cyrus’ “Adore You.” His most recent original work, “Love Again,” follows suit, getting airtime over radio waves across the country. The handsome Frenchman plays Marquee on April 25 and will return throughout the summer. As if the desert needed more heat...

The recent Miami Music Week was a big one for you. Did you get to choose everyone on the lineup for your “My House” party?

Yeah, I choose. The pool party was all my friends: People like Nervo, Tom Staar. I enjoy their music and play their music in my sets. Chris Lake, who opened, is a friend of mine as well. I closed the stage at Ultra, so that was pretty crazy.

What’s the most special thing that’s happened to you on the road?

When I performed in New Zealand, there was a party of 5,000 people. I thought I was walking into a festival, so I asked the promoters, “Who else is playing at this party?” And he’s like, “It’s your party.” And I only had two songs on the radio for that past year. I turned the music down, and the whole crowd was singing. I’m on the other side of the world in New Zealand, and it hit me: Wow, this is insane.

What’s your favorite part about visiting new places?

You explore the world. I do a job that not a lot of people can do, you know? You’d think you’re going to get tired, but you never get tired. You’re always in a different country, meeting different people. It’s amazing.

Do you have any special rituals when you go to work in the studio?

No, I have to get my ass in there, that’s what I have to do. Which is hard in Miami, because I have the sun and the beach. But I have no ritual. If it’s a remix or an original, it can start a different way. But there’s one thing that I impose on the engineers: Put the phones away, because you get distracted.

What type of music do you listen to when you’re not working?

Rock ’n’ roll. I listen to Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Nirvana, Soundgarden.

What’s your go-to track to rock the dance floor?

In my sets, it’s my song “Love Again.” It’s starting to do very well on the radio, so when I drop the record, the crowd gets hyped up and starts singing it. I look forward to playing that song in my set.

Why did you choose to go with Marquee for your residency this year?

I like the club very much. To me, it’s a very well-designed club for DJs. The vibe, the lighting, the sound. And I love the family—it’s like a family. Jason [Strauss] and the whole Marquee team are very nice to me.

Other than the music, what’s your favorite part of the production there?

It’s a show every night. There’s always something happening during my set. There’s the choreographed dancers coming out of this big LED wall, the light guy is on point, the stage manager is on point. I don’t have to worry about anything. The people in charge of the cryo and the confetti blasts are doing it at the right time during the right songs at the right moments.

What’s your favorite part about coming to Vegas, other than playing your shows?

The restaurants. [Vegas] has the top restaurants in the world. I love to eat on Sundays when I play there, because Sunday is my cheat day. The Cosmo has amazing restaurants; from Milos to STK and Scarpetta—which is one of my favorites.

So what’s your favorite dish?

The best spaghetti tomato sauce in the world, to me, is at Scarpetta. And the duck foie gras ravioli is insane. You have to try it. It’s amazing

Juanes And EDM's Cedric Gervais Collaborate On New Song - NBCNews.com | Cedric Gervais | Scoop.it

Great music and performers can transcend genres, as seen by the recent collaboration between Colombian sensation Juanes and Grammy-winning French EDM (Electronic Dance Music) DJ Cedric Gervais. Their new catchy song is called, "Este Amor."

Juanes recently made a guest appearance with Gervais at the Sunset Music Festival in Tampa, Fla. to premiere their collaboration.

After an introduction by Gervais, the Colombian crooner entered the stage jumping as his fans, many holding up Colombian, Mexican and other Latin American flags, welcomed him to the stage before he shared his voice with thousands of EDM fans.

This isn't the first time we see EDM and Latino stars together. At the Latin Billboards, EDM DJ Afrojack took to the stage with Luis Fonsi and Ne-Yo. The host of the night, Gaby Espino, called the performance the first of its kind on Hispanic television.

Juanes is going on his tour, "Loco De Amor," starting July 28 in Bakersfield, California.
